Description

Race brought to you by Horry County Parks and Recreation

3 Hour Adventure Race

Race Distance: 12-15 Miles (4 to 5 miles per hour average speed)

Categories: Solo, Two Person, Three Person and Four Person Teams

Description: The 3 hour race is designed for the beginner racers who want to try out adventure racing but over a short distance and minimal navigation or orienteering required. The 3 hour race is also a great way to get the whole family involved as it is something teens and adults can enjoy together. You will get the chance to use a map and locate check points but with a much lighter physical demand than that of the longer races. The 3 hour teams of 1-4 will travel across land, water and swamp on foot, mountain bike and kayaks in Horry County covering approximately 12-15 miles. Racers will be given pre-plotted UTM coordinates (orienteering) on their maps to be able to navigate to check points while paddling, cycling and running/trekking through the course. The check points will be placed in various different locations and will be marked with flagging tape for ease of location. The race will cover everything from beginner single track Mountain Biking trails to dirt or gravel roads, a few paved roads and flat water kayaking.

Description: Teams of 1-4 will travel across land, water and swamp in Horry County covering approximately 50-60 miles. Racers will be required to plot UTM coordinates (orienteering) on their maps to be able to navigate to check points while paddling, cycling and running/trekking through the course.
