The 20th Annual RUN FOR THE ROSE 5K & Family 1K
DATE: Sunday, April 14th, 2024
LOCATION: RICE UNIVERSITY!
The race supports brain cancer research and pediatric initiatives, recognizes brain tumor survivors, and remembers loved ones lost to this devastating disease.
Race-day activities include a 5K Run, 5K Walk, Family 1K, Survivor Stroll for brain tumor patients, and a lively post-race party for all participants. 5K Run participants are eligible to win awards, given to overall top male and female participants, and those who finish first in age-specific categories. Children receive medals. This is a certified race.
Where does it take place?
- The start line will be beside the Stadium on the Rice University campus. The course features a spectacular finish on the 50-yard line of the Rice Stadium football field.
What time does the Run for the Rose Start?
- Survivor Stroll: 7.50am
- 5K Run: 8.00am
- 5K Walk: 8.00am
- Family 1K: 8.30am (on the Rice Owls Field)

- Entrance 8 to park in West Lot #4 off of University Blvd & Stockton.

Do I have to be a fundraiser?
- While you are registering, you are AUTOMATICALLY registered As an Individual Fundraiser.
- You are NOT obligated to fundraise. However, you MUST have an individual fundraiser page to join a TEAM.
- Please contact us with any questions you have about fundraising or registration.
I am coming in from out of town. Where should I stay?
- Not to worry! The BLOSSOM HOTEL Houston is conveniently located near Rice University and the Med Center. They have generously offered a 15% discount for all out-of-town guests coming in for the run. This discount not only applies for the run but anytime you may need a hotel in Houston!

Is there an Athlete Gear Drop/Check?
- No, we will not be providing an Athlete Gear Drop area.
Where are the water stations?
- Stations will be located along the route and at the finish line. Exact locations will be announced shortly.
Where can I get my results for the timed 5K Run?
- Results will be available on the website immediately following the race.
- Each participant will also receive an email after the race with their results if they participated in the timed 5K run.
Who gets awards?
- Prizes for the top male and female overall finishers will be awarded to on-site participants only.
- Top male and female age group prizes will be awarded to on-site participants only for the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+
Is there an age minimum or limit?
- No, bring the whole family!
Are strollers and/or dogs permitted?
- Strollers - Yes! But, they must start behind all other runners and walkers for safety reasons.
- Dogs - No. We love them, but unfortunately, they are not allowed.
I have a friend who cannot participate in the event. Can I take his/her place?
- Each participant must have his/her own registration.
- In the event of an emergency, race officials must have emergency contact information on hand, therefore, you are NOT allowed to participate using someone else's registration.
- There are no exceptions to this policy.
I've never done a 5K before, is there a training program I can follow for beginners? What if I'm a runner and want to improve my time?
