IntSam Global 5K Cup Challenges

To make the race a little more fun, we are adding the following challenges that teams can choose to be a part of:

  • The Board Cup, representing at least one board member from each time on International Samaritan’s Board of Trustees.
  • The Coffee Cup, given to the winning team made up of International Samaritan scholarship students along with a bag of coffee from each of the other nations.
  • The Church Cup, whose team members must all attend the same church.
  • The Family Cup, which must include at least five participants from at least two generations of the same family.
  • The Jesuit Schools Cup, made up of teams of students from Jesuit high schools across the United States.
  • The Law Firm Cup, whose team members must all be a part of the same law firm.

Winning Teams

In addition to bragging rights as the best team on the globe in each challenge, the winning team in each challenge will receive a trophy with their team’s name and year on it that will travel to the winning team from year to year.

Race-Only Scoring

Scored like a cross-country meet, the places of the top five runners on the team are added up, and the team with the lowest number of “points” wins.  The place position is determined by the gender and age division that the runner is competing in, not their overall place of all the participants in the race.  In the event of a tie, the scores will be re-tabulated by the overall places in the race (not in the runner’s specific division).

Race and Mission Scoring

Start by adding the top five places of the runners on the team, as described in the Race Only Scoring above.  That determines the starting point for the team’s overall score.  Then deduct the points as described below, and the team with the lowest number of points wins.

  • Subtract one point for every person on the team who submits their time and a picture of their experience completing the 5K run or the one-mile walk between October 15, and November 1, 2020.
  • Subtract one point for every state in the U.S. represented by a member of the team who finishes the race and submits their time and a picture of their experience (limited to one point for each state).
  • Subtract two points for every nation in the world (other than the U.S.) represented by a member of the team who finishes the race and submits their time and a picture of their experience (limited to two points for each nation represented).
  • Subtract five points if the team hits the $1,500 fundraising goal--sending five tablets to our scholarship students.
  • Subtract one point for every $300 raised (or every tablet sent)  above the $1,500  goal.

In the event of a tie, the scores will be re-tabulated by the overall places in the race (not in the runner’s specific division).
