START & TIME LIMIT:

50K / 7:30 AM start; 10-hour time limit • 25K / 8:30 AM start; 9-hour time limit (time limits strictly enforced)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Elk River Hiking Trail. Accurately measured forest trail winding through unique limestone bluffs, rock formations & picturesque vistas. Mostly single-track, out & back, very rocky, no long hills.

AID STATIONS:

9 Aid Stations in the 50K--7 fully-stocked with water, electrolyte drink & snack-type foods, 2 water only. 3 fully stocked aid stations in the 25K. Approximate distance between aid stations is 3.5 miles with no distance greater than 4 miles between aid stations in either event.

CHECK-IN (Staging Area):

Race headquarters will be located in the Outlet Channel Group Shelter (north side of the Elk City Lake dam). Packet pick-up will be held on Friday evening September 29th, 2017. POST-RACE:

Meal will be held from 11-6:30 PM on Saturday evening September 26th in the Outlet Channel Group Shelterhouse. Triple Crown Awards Recognition and Knighting Ceremony of "FlatRock Hall of Pain" inductees will begin at 6:30 PM.

AWARDS:

First overall male & female in each event. Special 23rd Annual Commemorative Belt Buckles to ALL 50K finishers, plus unique awards to ALL 25K finishers. “FlatRock Hall of Pain” lifetime cloth race bibs to ten-consecutive year finishers, and golden chalices to ALL FlatRock Triple Crown Finishers.

LODGING:

Campsites (with & without electricity) & showers are available near starting line (Army Corps of Engineers/620-336-2741). Motels in Independence are approximately 7 miles away (Independence Chamber of Commerce 620-331-1890).

MEALS:

All entrants are entitled to the pre-race pasta dinner on Friday evening & the post-race meal on Saturday afternoon/evening. Runners meals ARE included in the entry fee; additional guests are $10 each for either meal and must be paid for at checkout.

There are several different ways to get to the Outlet Channel Shelterhouse (Staging Area) depending upon which direction you are coming from. If you have never been to FlatRock before we highly recommend allowing a little extra drive time, especially if you plan on driving in the morning of the race.

TRIPLE CROWN:

The FlatRock Triple Crown will once again be held for those runners looking for some real punishment on this legendary course! For those willing and able to finish all three races (WinterRock 25K, Flatrock 50K and the Flatrock 101K) you will receive a special award at the end of your 176K journey that will definitely be worth all of the punishment.
