Description

The Kentucky Alliance of Pharmacy Students (KAPS) and the OTC Medicine Safety committee through the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy welcome you to our third annual Rx Run! Our goal as an organization is to raise money and awareness for Be The Match. Whether you run or walk, everyone will be a winner for supporting this worthy cause.

Be The Match is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program and currently manages one of the largest and most diverse bone marrow registries in the world. This organization serves people with leukemia, lymphoma, and other life-threatening diseases and works to match them with a potential donor who could end up saving their life. Over the past two years we have added over 900 people to the national registry and we are hoping to continue our success this year.

There's no better time than now to start working towards a healthier you. We are here to support you and give you a fun goal to work towards. So grab a friend, get your running shoes ready, and start training!

KAPS

KAPS is an umbrella organization formed as a merger between the Kentucky chapter of the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the National Community Pharmacists Association. Our mission is to promote the growth of pharmacy students into practitioners characterized by a commitment to patient care, service, ethical behavior, and continuous personal and professional improvement. The organization does this by taking classroom knowledge and applying it to the needs of the community. We work at clinics serving the indigent population—Faith Pharmacy, the Salvation Army Clinic, and Frankfort Mission Clinic. We also volunteer at health fairs throughout the commonwealth, providing education and wellness checks. We travel to local schools to teach preventative measures against diabetes, promote medication safety, and speak out about drug abuse. Our organization has even set up booths at Lexington Legends’ games to provide self-care education on sunscreen use. If KAPS recognizes a healthcare related need within the greater Lexington area, then we take an initiative to help resolve it. Being involved helps us grow as future healthcare professionals and betters the community which we serve.
