Join the Louisville Sports Commission on Thursday, July 20 for the inaugural Louisville Active Parkway Mile. Taking place from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Southern Parkway, participants of all speeds and skill levels can toe the line for a flat and fast mile race. Runners will start next to The Gazebo at the corner of Southern Parkway and Woodlawn, running south to finish before the entrance to Iroquois Park. The race will take place in heats, with heats taking off every 8-15 minutes and culminating with the race for Fastest Runner in the City in our elite races.

Your race registration will include a safe and secure mile route with professional race timing (with results uploaded immediately), post-race refreshments, and a great race experience. For just $14, you can also purchase a dri-fit event tank top. Over the course of the night, food trucks and music will be set up for participant and spectators to enjoy.


  • Elite Male (must meet qualifying standard of 5:00 mile)
  • Elite Female (must meet qualifying standard of 6:00 mile)

Awards will be presented to runners in the following manner.

  • Age group awards will be in-store gift certificates from our great partners at Swag's Sport Shoes. First place winners will receive $25, second place $15, and third place $10.
  • Open Races - Overall winning male and female and top male and female in each age group. Age groups: 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39.
  • Masters Races - Overall winning male and female and top male and female in each age group. Age groups: 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over.
  • High School Races - Top three males and top three females.
  • Youth Mile - All finishers will receive a medal or ribbon.
  • Family Fun Run - All children finishers will receive a medal or ribbon.
  • Elite Races - Top three males and top three females will receive cash prizes, brought to you by Swag's Sport Shoes. First place will receive $125 cash, second place $75 cash, and third place $50 cash.


  • This straight, flat course will begin on Southern Parkway at Woodlawn Ave and finish on Southern Parkway just before it reaches New Cut Rd. The exact course can be viewed here.


  • Participants can park in the lot behind Iroquois High School. You can enter the lot from Taylor Blvd (4615 Taylor Blvd). The packet pickup and post-race activities, as well as the race finish line, will be positioned on Southern Parkway in front of Olmsted Academy South (5650 Southern Parkway). Participants will then walk to the start line down Southern Parkway at the intersection with Woodlawn Ave.

 Louisville Active

  • Funds raised from the Parkway Mile will benefit the non-profit Louisville Sports Commission’s Louisville Active, a community-wide movement that brings about a culture of active lifestyles through partnerships and programs that encourage health and vitality for all Louisville citizens.  The result will be improved health, longer life expectancy and an enhanced quality of life for our citizens.
