Rhonda Walker Foundation hosts the highly anticipated ninth annual Give and Get Fit health and fitness event on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 8AM at the lovely Detroit Riverfront Cullen Plaza (formerly Rivard Plaza). Give and Get Fit brings together over 500 health-conscious metro-Detroiters of all ages for a fun-filled morning of health and fitness education through health, nutrition and wellness exhibits, 5K/10K run/walk along the Detroit River and Dequindre Cut plus exhilarating yoga, pilates and boxing classes along the riverfront! All 5K/10K participants will receive a performance shirt, medal and goodie bag!
Proceeds benefit Rhonda Walker Foundation's award winning health and wellness youth programming through its five-year Girls into Women career, personal development, education and mentoring program for inner city teen girls. We encourage all participants to become a Camp I Can Champion by fundraising $250 - the amount needed to send one teen to Camp I Can. Camp I Can is a weekend leadership and self development retreat with fun-filled activities that stress team building, self-esteem, confidence building and overcoming barriers.

Join Kickboxing instructors Sydni Jones and Fortune from Jabs Gym Eastern Market for a high intensity cardio Kickboxing JAM class focused to burn, tone and shed! This class is designed for all ages to get results while having a BLAST!
9:00AM: Gentle Flow Yoga
Urban Solace's "Gentle Flow" Yoga class, led by Michelle Moten from Urban Solace, is an energizing practice style designed to introduce Give & Get Fit participants to the functional fitness benefits of yoga (strength, balance, and flexibility).
9:20AM: Flex & Flow Club Pilates Fusion Class
Join Lisa Mills of Fit Society for a fun filled core workout while lengthening, strengthening and toning.
Our race course begins and ends at the Riverfront Rivard Plaza and winds through Milliken State Park, along the river and on the Dequindre Cut. Along the course, enjoy entertainment from the Detroit Circus, cheerleaders and more!
Parking is available on the street, The Smart Parking Lot for $3 per vehicle (cash only and located at 936 Woodbridge Street), the GM Surface Lot next to Rivard Plaza for $10 per vehicle (credit card only) and in the Beaubien garage for $15 per vehicle (located off of Beaubien between Jefferson and Atwater). No parking on Atwater please.

All participants will receive a medal. In addition, awards will be presented to the overall top female and male finishers in the 5K and 10K as well as the first place female and male finishers in each age group: 9 and under, 10-13,14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 and older.

Teams aren’t just limited to family members! Groups of friends, coworkers, community and civic organizations, towns, and even whole schools have found that banding together is an effective way to increase the amount of money they can raise for the Rhonda Walker Foundation! By officially registering your team online you will now have access to powerful recruitment and fundraising resources. All teams will receive a sign along the race course. During the awards ceremony, awards will be provided to the team who:
- Has the most team members (Valor Award)
- Has the most team spirit (Spirit Award)
- Raises the most funds (Champion Award)

In September 2015, I joined the Rhonda Walker Foundation. I was thirteen, in the eighth grade and still figuring out how to maneuver the difficulties of adolescence. At this time, I was most susceptible to social and academic standards, peer pressure, and others’ perspective of me. My self image was so unstable that people would feign their loyalty towards me so they could use my trust and vulnerability for self gratification and for a long time, that has been the story of my life.
However, when I spent time with Rhonda Walker, her well-respected group of mentors, and others teenage girls, I realized how much more I deserved and I could not pass up the opportunity to be apart of this. The women in this program are the epitome of strength, class, intelligence and Black Girl Magic. Over the years, they helped me peel off my damaged layers and underneath them, I had all the traits I admired them for. Rhonda Walker alone has taught me too many things to list in this testimony, but I will say a few. Our famous acronym is RWF (Respect myself and others, Walk with confidence, Fearless and faithful). If I were to lose my memory and forget everything else I learned in this program, this would be enough because there is nothing more dangerous than a girl who knows her value and capability.
