Start your season with the Spectrum Health Irish Jig! Now in its 36th year, the Irish Jig has grown to become one of Michigan's premier 5K races. This 5K (3.1 mile) USA Track and Field certified course features long straightaways on Wealthy, Lake and Hall streets. It is mostly flat with a few gentle hills. The start is a short walk from the East Grand Rapids High School gym where you'll visit the Health & Fitness Expo, check-in/late register prior to the event and return for the awards ceremony and costume contest. Spectrum Health is proud to provide this event as part of its mission to improve the health of the communities it serves.
The top age group and Team Competition winners receive awards, and the top overall finishers receive cash awards. All registered participants will receive a long sleeve, gender-specific, technical shirt and access to post-event refreshments. Cancer survivors can select the "Cancer Survivors 5K" when registering and be assigned a "Cancer Survivor" bib to wear during the Irish Jig to help commemorate their journey back to health.
• Animals are not allowed on the run or walk courses; baby strollers are welcome on the walk course but not allowed on the run course due to the number of participants.
• Walking the course is allowed, but participants must start behind those running the 5K and complete the route within 75 minutes when the finish line closes at 10 a.m.
Walk starts at approximately 8:45 a.m.
• Weather conditions vary from year to year, so dress appropriately.
• The Health & Fitness Expo will take place in the East Grand Rapids High School gym in conjunction with Irish Jig event check-in/late registration on Friday, March 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, March 16 from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
• In case of severe weather, event directors reserve the right to cancel the race without refunds. Go to spectrumhealth.org/irishjig to view the 2019 Irish Jig Hazardous Weather Protocol.
• Long sleeve, gender-specific, technical shirts featuring the 36th annual Spectrum Health Irish Jig design will be available. Please see chart for sizing.
• At event check-in, shirts will be provided to those who pre-registered by Sunday, March 10 and selected their shirt size. Those who registered after Sunday, March 10 can choose from available shirt sizes on a first come first served basis at Irish Jig check-in.
• If extra shirts are available after the race, they will be sold for a $10 donation to the Spectrum Health Cancer Center.
