Description

Start your season with the Spectrum Health Irish Jig! Now in its 36th year, the Irish Jig has grown to become one of Michigan's premier 5K races. This 5K (3.1 mile) USA Track and Field certified course features long straightaways on Wealthy, Lake and Hall streets. It is mostly flat with a few gentle hills. The start is a short walk from the East Grand Rapids High School gym where you'll visit the Health & Fitness Expo, check-in/late register prior to the event and return for the awards ceremony and costume contest. Spectrum Health is proud to provide this event as part of its mission to improve the health of the communities it serves.

The top age group and Team Competition winners receive awards, and the top overall finishers receive cash awards. All registered participants will receive a long sleeve, gender-specific, technical shirt and access to post-event refreshments. Cancer survivors can select the "Cancer Survivors 5K" when registering and be assigned a "Cancer Survivor" bib to wear during the Irish Jig to help commemorate their journey back to health.

Colorectal Cancer Awareness

Spectrum Health is proud to promote colorectal cancer awareness through the Spectrum Health Irish Jig on Saturday, March 16, 2019.

Among cancers that affect men and women, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, yet it is preventable. Thanks to increased awareness of the risks and symptoms, advances in screening tests, and evolving treatment options, the number of people diagnosed and dying from colorectal cancer continues to decline. For more information, visit http://www.spectrumhealth.org/patient-care/cancer/about-my-cancer/colorectal-cancer.

Three Event Deal athletes can also participate in the Irish Jig Team Compeition by selecting to be part of a specific team once it has been created online by the team captain.  Medals will be awarded to the top three teams in each division at the Irish Jig awards ceremony.  However, for Team Competition related to the Brian Diemer Family of Races and the Reeds lake Run, team captains will need to establish their teams on each event's website.  Team captains can then move their individual members onto the teams they have created for each event.
