Let's honor our veterans this year.

Freedom is not free.  Deep down in our hearts we all know that.  Our freedom is a gift given to us by our Creator and all the men and women who sacrificed to preserve it.  Let's honor our veterans this year at the Lakestride.  Our veterans will have a special bib that identifies the branch they served in.  Prior to the beginning of the races we will take some time to shake their hand, thank them, hug them and love on them.  They deserve it.  We have other things in the works that we will share with you as race day nears.  This is going to be special.

Ludington on Display by Todd and Brad Reed Photography:  For 37 years Todd Reed has been photographing Michigan Scenes.  Brad joined his dad after graduating from Calvin College and it’s been magical ever since.  The award winning father-son team have produced several books showcasing the natural beauty of Northern Michigan.  Once you have seen their photos you will agree that the FCA Ludington Lakestride is truly a Destination Race.  On a bi-monthly basis we will be sharing Todd and Brad’s photos with you as part of our email updates.   The image shown is the iconic Ludington Lighthouse, right next to the finish line of our races. Click on the photo if you would like to go to the Todd and Brad Reed Photography website.  Then click the "Online Gallery" tab to view more.  We hope you enjoy them.

On June 13, 2020, we will host the 40th running of the Ludington Lakestride Races. Our mission is to provide quality running events that are challenging, safe, and fun. We want to provide runners with accurate times, have quality aid stations with friendly, enthusiastic volunteers, and showcase Ludington's beautiful lakeshore throughout the course and promote the area as a family vacation destination.  A brief history of the Lakestride races: Beginning in 1981, this race has become well known for the quality of experience and competition the runners bring in. Over the years the half-marathon race has changed courses and the 10K race was replaced with a 5-kilometer race. The 10K event has recently been re-introduced, which gives runners a choice among 3 distances; the long standing Half-marathon, 10K, or 5K race. Race directors have changed, along with volunteers and sponsors, but the tradition remains, and each year the event will become bigger and better.

Half Marathon Course Descripton

The half marathon course is beautiful, yet challenging. Runners start on Lake Shore Drive, near the city beach, and head north towards the Ludington State Park, then turn off to the right at Piney Ridge Road, about the 2 mile mark. Runners will then continue along for 2 miles of paved, rolling hills, that run between the Lake Michigan dunes and Hamlin Lake. They will leave Piney Ridge Road at about the 4 mile mark and enjoy a 1.8 mile trail run through a very beautiful mature forest. This section of the course is fun, with a few technical areas. It’s full of short ups and downs that allow you to maintain pace with little effort, it’s fast but passing must be done carefully. Once clear of the woods, you run down the infamous sand dune, cross over Hamlin dam, run through the State Park and turn south running along the Lake Michigan Shore line on Lakeshore Drive for about 6 miles. Runners will want to take in the view of the lake on this return trip. Aid stations offering Gatorade & water will dot every mile up to the trail entrance and will continue again once runners exit the State Park, about the 7 mile mark. There will not be port-a-johns on the course. The majority of the run is flat. The trail is the exception, along with one hill at the 12 mile mark. After that it’s flat and fast to the finish located at the city beach. Enjoy post-race refreshments in the finish area tent while cheering on fellow finishers. Most of the runners bring family and spend the day on the beach swimming, tanning or playing volleyball. Downtown Ludington is walking distance from the beach.

Packet Pick Up and Late Registration

Stearns Park is a focal point in Ludington, where so many people gather for a number of activities. This is the city's largest beach, with 2,500 feet of sandy shoreline and plenty of FREE parking. The half-mile walk out to the Lighthouse is popular among couples, families, and fishermen. Beach patrol officers are on duty from 11am-8pm.
