Fast and Furriest 5k Year 12

Grab your crew and lace up for Rescue One’s 12th Annual Fast and the Furriest!   Join us for a fun morning walk or run through the beautiful Rountree neighborhood. We will be back at the same location as last year—1409 E Cherry Street, the field next to Sleepy Opossum Cafe—following our tried-and-true route.  This family-friendly event welcomes animal lovers and athletes of all ages and experience levels. Well-socialized, leashed pups are encouraged (no retractable leashes). Choose from a 1-mile, 5K, or virtual race option. 10:00 am start time. 

Every step supports Rescue One and helps save lives!

This event will take place rain or shine unless severe weather creates unsafe conditions for participants or volunteers. In the event of severe weather, we will look at rescheduling the event for later in the year. 

Packet Pick-Up Information

Friday, May 15th
  Tie & Timber Beer Co. – 1451 E. Cherry Street
  12:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Come grab your shirt, swag bag, and bib the day before the race to avoid long lines on race morning!  You are also welcome to pick up packets for friends and family.

Race Day – Saturday, May 16th
  1409 E. Cherry Street
   8:30 AM – 9:45 AM

Please make sure to arrive with enough time to park on nearby streets and walk to the start area.  Race begins promptly at 10am.  Do not block any businesses or driveways.

Race Day Reminders & Course Information

• Race starts at 10:00 am. Please arrive early.
• If you are bringing your pet, they must be dog- and people-friendly, on a standard leash (no retractable leashes allowed), and please be sure to clean up after them so others do not step in it.
• Parking will be on nearby streets, so please arrive early to allow time to park and walk to the start area. We will begin promptly at 10:00 AM.
• The race route is shown below. We will have volunteers throughout the course to help guide you, though they will not be stationed at every turn. Please watch for route signs, which will be placed on the right side of the road. If you do not see a sign, continue straight.  
• Please note: the 1-mile group will turn around after the first right turn on Lombard. If you see participants heading back and you are not participating in the 1-mile route, continue on the course.
• We have added an additional water station along the route this year, so be sure to grab water for both yourself and your pup.
  After the race, we will have chicken tenders from Huey Magoo’s and cookies from The Urban Cup! Be sure to stop by and grab some refreshments.
• We will have a donation bin if you would like to bring items on Friday or Saturday!  We always need food (dog and cat), treats, puppy pads, trash bags, bleach and cat litter.
