Western Carolina University's Sport Management Association invites you to the 11th annual Mountain Heritage Day 5K! This is a family friendly chip timed race for all ages and ability levels. The new, faster course route features a combination of sidewalk, pavement, and gravel paths and is appropriate for both beginner and accomplished runners. New for 2019, participants will depart Stillwell Sciences Building onto Central Drive and then descend Old Cullowhee Road. Runners will then cruise through the heart of WCU's campus past iconic landmarks, including the 'Catafount' water fountain and Alumni Tower, on their way to the finish line. Come enjoy a fun way to stay active while experiencing Western Carolina University's beautiful campus!
After the awards ceremony, take a short stroll or shuttle ride over to the vibrant Mountain Heritage Day festival and celebrate Southern Appalachian mountain culture through live musical performances and demonstrations, food and craft vendors, and a variety of family friendly activities. Admission to the festival is free! All proceeds from the 5k race support the Cory David Spaugh Sport Management Association Scholarship Fund.

We are very excited to be unveiling our new course! This year the route will involve running down Old Cullowhee Road instead of climbing it as in previous years. The race follows the arrows drawn on the map of our campus posted here, with runners starting at Stillwell Sciences Building, indicated by the black marker on the map, and following the blue arrows, then passing on to the yellow, and finally the red arrows back to the finish line.
