Come solo or as part of a team to the 3rd annual Summit Solstice 12-Hour Relay. On Saturday, June 16, from 7:00am-7:00pm, you and/or your team take turns running for 12 straight hours.
There will also be a one-mile kids' color fun run, which will start at 4:00pm.
Where is it? The event will be based at Summit Coffee's Outpost location, on the Davidson College campus. Runners will have the entire lawn to set up camp, mingle with other runners and our vendors, eat and drink, and more.
How Does It Work? There are three divisions: 1-person, 4-person and 8-person. There are three courses: 3-mile, 5-mile and 9.3-mile. Completing those loops earns you 1, 2 or 5 points, respectively. Each loop starts and ends at the Summit Outpost, and only one person from each team can run at a time. Until 5:00pm that is -- when the rules change ...
Strategy is important!
What Are The Loops? The 3- and 5-mile loops will use the Davidson College Cross Country Trails. The 9.3-mile loop heads out to Grey Rd., into the Abersham development and returns on that same course.
Is there a set order? No! Teams can send runners out in whatever order they see fit, and can adjust throughout the day.
What do we get? Registration entitles runners to a tank top, plus a bagel + coffee breakfast and snacks throughout the day. The Summit Outpost has a full kitchen that will be open for the race, so hot food can be made to order.
Prizes? There will be prizes for the top 3 teams in each division, plus the team with the best sportsmanship!
Is there a party? Of course! As with all Summit Twilight Racing Series events, there will be live music. This time, we'll go live from noon-10pm, with various artists taking the stage. Sierra Nevada will be pouring, and there will be plenty of other things to keep you entertained.
What's the cause? This race benefits Team Summit Foundation, a local non-profit that helps children from low-income families attend camps and participate in sports and other outdoor activities.

We’re excited that you’re taking part in the second annual Summit Solstice 12-Hour Solo and Relay Run. Below you will find detailed course information for each of the three courses, along with links to the routes. Each course will be marked with signage. As a reminder, the race will be scored by a points system. The three-mile course is one point, the five-mile course is two points, and the nine-mile course (actually a bit longer, but who’s counting) is worth five.
Three-mile course is on the Davidson College trails and will consist of the powerline trail along with one INNER loop. Start by crossing Patterson Court and continuing behind the school bulletin board. Go around the retaining pond to get to the power line trail. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1796654939
Five-mile course is on the Davidson College trails and will consist of the power line trail along with one OUTER loop and one MIDDLE loop. Start by crossing Patterson Court and continuing behind the school bulletin board. Go around the retaining pond to get to the powerline trail. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1796654566
Nine-mile course is on asphalt and goes to and around the Abersham subdivision east of town. Start by turning right onto Patterson Court, right on Baker Dr. taking the campus sidewalk to Main St. Turn left onto Main St., then left onto Davidson-Concord Rd. Left onto Grey Rd., then right into Abersham subdivision. There will be a self-supported water station at the entrance off Grey and Greenwold, which runners will encounter twice. After going counter-clockwise around Abersham, head back towards town. Note that the course is open to vehicular traffic so runners must pay attention to their surroundings. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2773506146
Bonus! On the nine-mile course we have set up a Strava challenge. Called the Summit Solstice Strava Challenge, the individual runner who completes it in the fastest time as recorded by the Strava app will receive a terrific prize from REI Charlotte. If you’re unfamiliar with Strava, it’s a free app wherein you can measure and compare your running activities with your friends. https://www.strava.com/segments/12381171
