The Derby Run

THE RACE

The Derby Run, in memory of Justin Lopes, takes place at Terry Sanford High School.

The 5K and 10K courses run through the scenic Haymount area as well as the Fayetteville Technical Community Campus and will finish near the Terry Sanford High School baseball field. There will also be a 1 Mile Fun Run and face painting. 

Participants are encouraged to wear their best Derby Run hat and/or costume. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumed runners, best decorated stroller and best Derby Run hat.

SHIRTS:
Race shirts are guaranteed to participants who register by March 22, 2024 and attend the event. Participants who register after March 22nd can choose from remaining sizes while supplies last. 

FINISHER MEDALS:

All finishers will receive The Derby Run finisher medal as they cross the finish line.

THE COURSE

Terry Sanford High School

Fayetteville, NC  28303

The 5K and 10K courses start at Terry Sanford High School and runs through scenic Haymount areas as well as the Fayetteville Technical Community College campus. The 5K run is a flat terrain. The 10K is more challenging and includes some hills. Both the 5K and 10K will finish at the Terry Sanford High School baseball field.
This race course is also stroller and dog friendly!

THE CAUSE

Net proceeds from the Derby Run go to local charities that benefit children. These include The Child Advocacy Center in Fayetteville, Cy’s World Foundation and the Justin Richard Lopes Memorial Scholarship.

The Child Advocacy Center offers children a safe place that supports the prevention, investigation and prosecution of child abuse.

Cy’s World Foundation was founded in 2010 to honor Cy Garber. Cy’s World Foundation seeks to promote a love of the outdoors to children.

Two scholarships in memory of Justin Lopes are awarded every year to Cumberland County High School graduating seniors through the Cumberland Community Foundation.
