3.21 Dash for Down Syndrome 5K Canceled, But with Virtual Option

Dear Dash Participants,

As you all know, this year's Dash for Down Syndrome 5K was canceled due to the Coronavirus outbreak. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we thank you for your understanding. Even though we will not be able to get together in person for the race, we are excited to be able to offer Dash participants the option to do a Virtual 5K!

If you are interested in running or walking the 5K virtually in honor of World Down Syndrome Day on Saturday, March 21st, we encourage you to wear your brightly colored, even mismatched socks to celebrate. Be sure to take photos and share them on social media with the hashtags #GSODash4Ds, #downsyndromenetworkgso, and #WDSD2020!

Thank you all so much for your support and understanding during this trying time. We hope that this option of completing the race virtually will be a healthy and fun way to help brighten up your week!

In health and love,

The Dash Team and Your Friends at the DSNGG

About World Down Syndrome Day

The DSNGG holds the 3.21 Dash for Down Syndrome in honor of World Down Syndrome Day! We hope you will join us as we celebrate and honor those in our lives who have that little something “extra”!

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated each year on 3/21 to signify the third copy of the 21st chromosome present in individuals with Down Syndrome. Events will take place AROUND THE WORLD to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome and the vital role they play in our lives and communities. To learn more about World Down Syndrome Day and to see how people are celebrating around the globe, go to https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org/wdsd-2015.

Join us for the Lots of Socks campaign! On the day of the Dash, we invite you to wear brightly colored socks, long socks, printed socks, 1 sock… even 3 socks for 3 chromosomes. The choice is yours, but we ask you to join us wearing something which people will ask you about so that you can tell them all about World Down Syndrome Day. Find more information at https://worlddownsyndromeday.org/lots-of-socks.

About the Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro

The Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro is committed to enriching the lives of individuals with Down syndrome by connecting with new families, providing social and educational opportunities for our members, and promoting awareness and inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome in our community. Our website is www.dsngg.org. The money raised specifically at the Dash will fund the DSNGG’s new “Dash for Your Dreams” Scholarship, which will provide local teen to adult applicants with Down syndrome monetary support to help reach their dreams of attending post-secondary school or obtaining the skills necessary to procure and maintain meaningful employment.
