It is with tremendous regret that we have made the decision to cancel the Charity Chase Half Marathon and 5K for 2020. As you are aware, Governor Cooper has declared a State of Emergency for the State of North Carolina that currently prohibits gatherings of more than 10 people. Governor Cooper has mapped out a plan to open up the state, which includes 3 phases. Looking through the 3 phases of opening up North Carolina, it has become evident to us that Charity Chase cannot be run on June 6th, 2020.
As such, we are contacting our runners, our volunteers and our sponsors to inform them of our decision to place the safety of our runners and our volunteers over our desire to hold our 15th annual race. This decision has been a difficult one and one that the Charity Chase planning committee has agonized over. We have tried to come up with creative ways to run the race safely, but due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we do not believe that this is possible.
We also realize that our wonderful participants are likely to have been impacted financially as well due to the Pandemic and the economic losses that are associated with the stay-at-home order. We are contacting our participants to ask them what they would like Charity Chase to do with their registration fees. There are three ways to proceed going forward. As you know, the Charity Chase supports many non-profit organizations that work as volunteers at the race, so the first option would be to allow Charity Chase to use your 2020 registration fee to give to those non-profit organizations. The second is to defer your registration for the 2021 race. The third is to ask Charity Chase for a complete refund of your registration fee. We are happy to return the money to you, especially in these difficult financial times.
In a nut-shell, please let us know how you would like to proceed no later than May 10th, 2020 : 1) Donate your 2020 registration fee to Charity Chase to distribute to the supported non-profit organizations, 2) Defer your registration fee to the 2021 race or 3) Refund your registration fee. Decision period closed. If you did not indicate your choice by 11:59 pm on June 6th, we have donated your money to the associated charities.

The Charity Chase Half Marathon is an rewarding run for those up for the challenge. Hickory is in the foothills of North Carolina and the race course winds around the city with elevation changes that will require some effort. There is something even more exciting about this race!
We are now offering TWO NEW RACES IN 2020!
New for 2020 is the Charity Chase 5k which will take participants through the downtown area of Hickory and through Lenoir Rhyne University. The 5k will start before the Half Marathon so family members can participate and still have time to cheer each other on!
Also New for 2020 is our Charity Chase Challenge!!! Run both the Charity Chase 5k and Half Marathon! Are you ready for the Challenge?
Charity Chase Challenge participants will begin with the Charity Chase 5k Run at 7:00 AM, run through the finish line, and get ready to start the Charity Chase Half Marathon BEFORE 7:45 AM!
