Step Up for Hunger

Hello, my name is Summer Collins and I am currently a senior at R. L. Patton High School. For my graduation project, I am holding a benefit race for Burke United Christian Ministries (BUCM), a local non-profit organization in Morganton, NC. Since 1975, Burke United Christian Ministries has been feeding every person who walks into the Soup Kitchen with a nutritious meal, while also giving financial assistance, counseling, clothing, and Christian conversations to those who are in need. Each year, BUCM continues to serve a growing population. My goal for this project is not only to raise awareness for BUCM, but also raise money for them to purchase food, which they are able to purchase for 16 cent per pound.

The fundraiser I am holding will be a 5K race and 1 Mile Fun run located on the Greenway in Morganton, NC. Participants are to meet at Catawba Meadows Park where the picnic area is. Race day registration and packet pick up will be from 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM. The 5K race will begin at 8:00 AM and the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will begin at 9:00 AM.

All proceeds will be presented to BUCM after the race.
