In Support of Mike Holt

I am Marie, Mike Holt’s sister. He has recently come to live with my husband and me in Burgaw, NC after a debilitating stroke in late June left him with some severe disabilities. He has incurred quite a few medical bills and faces a long road to recovery. Because of his age, he does not qualify for Medicare and has not been approved for disability of any sort. When his stroke occurred, his income also stopped. He loved working at RTW Lawn Services and seeing all of his customers. Mike has a long history in Salisbury. His grandparents lived there, and he has numerous relatives in the area.  Furthermore, he worked as a juvenile court counselor and taught in local high schools before retiring. He has given countless hours to this community and his ties to Rowan County are deep. He is a single dad who raised his daughter, Charlene there as well. She recently graduated with honors from East Rowan and began her first semester of college in August. She is majoring in Equine Business and Equine Training at Martin Community College. Any funds raised will go towards Mike’s medical bills, Charlene’s college tuitions and his “in home” care, which he needs 24/7 and is not covered by insurance. In the near future, he will have another surgery and hopefully, this will allow him to have more mobility. Mike is working so diligently with therapists to become independent again. He is my hero, and I couldn’t be any prouder of him and his progress!

Erwin Middle School Clothing Closet

The Clothing Closet assists children in poverty and at-risk students.  Knox Middle School closed this year, and those students were sent to other area middle schools.  Erwin received approximately 180 students from Knox.  The closet provides toiletries and personal care items, school supplies, backpacks, underwear, socks, and clothing items. With so many new students, they are feeling the pinch to provide these necessities to help students be successful.
