The Pair of Hearts 5K is a Valentine's Day-themed race unlike any other. Singles are welcome, but signing up as a pair gives you a discount on your registration (though you must cross the finish line holding hands with your partner)!
With hot chocolate and refreshments waiting at the end of the race, (plus a variety of prizes from local restaurants, gift shops, and date night hot-spots), the 5K itself is just the beginning of the fun!
To top it all off, a portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Cape Fear American Heart Association!
So get ready to run a race like no other... the Pair of Hearts 5K, where you can come as a pair... or leave as one.
In the lead-up to the race, we are diligently looking for sponsors, and this section of the page will be updated every time we secure a new one!
Sponsors will donate cash and prizes (such as gift cards, products, coupons, offers, etc.) in exchange for promotion before, during, and after the race! In addition, a portion of their donation will also be directly contributed to the Cape Fear American Heart Association.
For more information on how you can become a sponsor and all that we are offering in return, please contact us using the form at the bottom of this page.
A portion of the race profits are going to the Cape American Heart Association, as well as 100% of the prize raffle ticket sales.
So far, our raffle ticket sales have raised... $20!
Cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke) is the #1 cause of death among men and women. Each day thousands of Americans die from cardiovascular disease, an average of one death every 39 seconds. Funds raised for the Cape Fear American Heart Association support heart disease and stroke research and public and professional education programs. Research funded by the American Heart Association has yielded important discoveries such as CPR, life-extending drugs, pacemakers, bypass surgery and surgical techniques to repair heart defects. Thank you for supporting the American Heart Association and making the Cape Fear community healthier. Our need is great and your support is critical. You are helping raise awareness, heart rates, and life-saving dollars for heart and brain health.
Simply finishing a 5K is worth a reward no matter how long it takes, and so in order to ensure that EVERYONE gets a shot at a prize (while simultaneously maintaining a healthy spirit of competition), our prize structure operates on a raffle-based system, with top finishers being awarded additional chances to win based on leaderboard placement!
Prizes include gift cards and more from local Wilmington restaurants, gift shops, and date night hot-spots.
Each racer gets ONE ticket for finishing, but the top ten finishers get more:
1st Place- 10 additional raffle tickets
2nd Place- 8 additional raffle tickets
3rd Place- 6 additional raffle tickets
4th Place- 5 additional raffle tickets
5th Place- 4 additional raffle tickets
6th Place- 3 additional raffle tickets
7th - 10th Place- 2 additional raffle tickets
These numbers are based on 200 entries. Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase at registration and packet pick-up (max 5 per racer), but NOT on race day.
The Pair of Hearts 5K will be held at beautiful Greenfield Lake in Wilmington, NC. Race HQ (Registration and Awards) will be at the pavilion near the Greenfield Grind Skate Park, and the race will start on the path just next to it. The course is there-and-back, following E. Lake Shore Drive most of the way. Participants will pass through groves of trees, over small bridges, and will be treated with beautiful views of the lake as they run. There is no trail or street running, nor are there any obstacles to worry about. The course is 99% solid concrete.
