Regrettably, the Dia de los Muertos 5K has been canceled and will not be held in 2021. Anyone that has already registered for the race will be fully refunded.
This cancelation is due to several circumstances that made it too much of a challenge to host a race this weekend. We were eager to host the inaugural Dia de los Muertos 5K race in 2021, but this will need to wait until 2022.
The final Coal Pit Live show of the season is still on for this weekend and is not affected by this cancelation. We are truly sorry for the cancelation of the 5K race and hope you’ll plan to join us in 2022.
This is a pre-Halloween twilight 5K race starting and finishing in Bailey Park in the Innovation Quarter, downtown Winston-Salem. Dia de los Muertos is a Spanish term for Day of the Dead, also known as All Saints Day. The 5K run will be on a flat out and back course that turns around near the Salem Cemetery. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes in recognition of Day of the Dead/Halloween.
Participants will receive a special Dia de los Muertos t-shirt. Participants over 21 years old will receive a Dia de los Muertos Cerveca beer from Incendiary Brewing Company. Water and Gatorade will also be available.
Following the race, the final Coal Pit Live show of the season will be available as free entertainment for runners.
Awards will be presented to the top 3 overall male and female finishers. First place awards will be presented for age groups as follows:
Under 19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and up.
