Description

The White Mountains Triathlons are thrilled to announce an exciting day of racing in 2017. We've taken the first four years to perfect the venue and improve the course, both bike and run, and we're pleased to say that we think we've got it locked!! The three loop half run and one loop Oly run introduced in 2015 were a huge hit and so all said, we think we have the epic race course in one of the most spectacular regions of New England. The Half and Olympic Distance events will run coincidentally, and travel throughout Franconia Notch State Park and the White Mountain National Forest. A more magnificent and awe inspiring venue for a race cannot be found! Swim in the crystalline waters of the Notch’s Echo Lake, (with a late June event date, MUCH warmer!!) ride among the fields and forests of the valley region, and along the rocky path of the Wild Ammonusuc River, and through the majesty of the woods of the White Mountain National Forest. Our infamous “King of the Mountain” cash awards and polka dot KOM jerseys will be presented once again for the best climbers among men and women on a measured and timed two mile ascent to Beaver Pond in Kinsman Notch. Descent speeds after this climb can reach 40mph if you dare!  Olympic athletes will enjoy the initial 2 mile descent out of transition, some valley flats and rollers, a one mile climb up to Bethlehem, then a very gradual ascent over the Daniel Webster Highway with a spectacular view of Mt. Lafayette to your left and Cannon Mountain in your face, returning to T2. Experience a spectator friendly three loop half marathon run (Oly is one loop and finish approach of 4.7mi) over the fabulous paved recreation trail that winds its way from Cannon Mountain down by Echo Lake, by the Cannon Mountain Tramway, adjacent to Profile Lake and onward through the woods and back again. The scenery of the Notch is unmatched anywhere in New England and will provide those athletes headed to either Ironman Lake Placid in July or Mont Tremblant in August with the best tune-up event that can be found nearby. The opportunity to visit the region for the entire weekend is accorded by accomodation choices that are very abundant with price ranges that will meet any budget...camping to 5 star B&B's, everything in between.  Complimentary 2 for 1 Discovery Passes to Franconia Notch State Park are provided to all athletes.
