Description

For nearly 50 years, this race/walk has been a New Year's Day tradition in Temple, NH. This race is sponsored by the Souhegan Lions, who use the proceeds to help people in the towns of Temple, New Ipswich, Greenville, and Mason with sight and hearing needs, as well as with emergencies such as fires. The Souhegan Lions also support special needs organizations in the state. The Souhegan Lions have become increasingly active in supporting the food pantry in Greenville, NH over the past ten years. During the COVID19 Pandemic with its layoffs and family illness, the Souhegan Lions have taken a larger role, including shopping for needed items to bring back to the pantry as well as sending monthly donations to support this community food pantry.   Just a note, while we love dogs, dogs are not allowed on the race course.

Why Choose This New Year's 5K Race?

The Souhegan Lions Club has held the P'nut Butter Chip Chase 5K Walk or Run for nearly 50 years. This  event began as a local New Year's Day activity and grew into a walk/run that around 200 people show up for each year! This year, we have COVID19 to contend with, as well as the questionable weather conditions of New Year's Day in New Hampshire. In order for us to stay safe and yet still connected, this year's Chip Chase is going to be in-person with modifications as to how we will handle same-day registration, bib and shirt pick-up, and the after-race festivities. This event is a significant fundraiser for the Souhegan Lions Club, contributing to our ability to address sight & hearing needs in our communities, help with immediate aid for local disasters, such as fires, and many other causes. We continue to donate generously to our local food pantry, knowing that many have been laid-off or lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic. So please register and connect with us!

The P'nut Butter Chip Chase 5K Course

The P'nut Butter Chip Chase 5K course is a scenic country course with rolling hills. Many entrants make this race a New Year's Day tradition. With a noon start, it's even possible to bring in the new year and wake up in time to get to Chip Chase by late morning.

Less Single-Use Plastics = Free Cup of Hot Cider!

We now realize, in the twenty-first century, that we are using more plastics and recycling less of it. In fact, in 2018, only 8.7% of plastics were 'perhaps' recycled (this includes plastics sent overseas where they may not have been recycled). As stewards of our Earth's resources, we are taking a small step to reduce the use of single-use plastics by encouraging participants to bring and use their own reusable water bottles to the P'nut Butter Chip Chase on New Year's Day. When participants show their water bottle at the water table near the finish line, they receive a cup of hot apple cider.
