Description
First a little history, the Greenlawn Fire Department has always been there for the organizers of The Little Cow Harbor Run for Hope providing EMS and ambulance support for their run. When it came time to launch our own fundraising run, we modeled our Halloween 5k after the Run for Hope. In 2019, after four successful years holding our run at The Oldfield Middle School we changed the venue and course. We would no longer start and finish at The Oldfield Middle School. Instead we started and finished at the Greenlawn Fire Department's Headquarters at 23 Boulevard Avenue in Greenlawn. Despite a couple of small hiccups, the weather and the runners cooperated and we held a great Halloween 5k run in 2019.
Later in the Fall of 2019 we were asked if we would be interested in taking over the administration of the 4 mile Little Cow Harbor Run for Hope. We mulled over our options for a few weeks and in December of 2019 we decided that we would add a second run to our fundraising schedule. Given that the Run for Hope was typically held in late February or early March it was decided that it would be impossible to put together a successful run in less than two months and that we would relaunch The Run For Hope in 2021.
No one knew that few if any charity runs would be held in 2020, small and large races were cancelled all over the country and our Halloween 5k was no exception. Many of you supported our virtual Halloween 5k and we can't tell you how much we appreciated that support.
In the Summer of 2020 when we decided to hold our Halloween 5k as a virtual event we shifted our focus to holding a live relaunch of the Run for Hope in late Winter of 2021. Unfortunately we were again unable to hold a live event- but have decided on a soft re-launch of the Little Cow Harbor Run For Hope as a virtual event.
The (virtual) Greenlawn Run for Hope will be held between May 1st and May 23rd.
By now, most runners have run at least one virtual race in 2020, but in case you haven't here are some simple instructions. Register and use a device to measure your time on any 4 mile distance. For ease, we recommend that you use Race Joy to do that. The app is free when you register for the race and you will receive an email how to download it and use it. Download the app, set it up and bring your device along to a starting line. Load the race on Runsignup and hit the green start button and go. The app will give you splits at each mile and cheers as you run or walk. When you finish you will be acknowledged and your time will be sent to Runsignup results for the Greenlawn Run for Hope.
In addition to this virtual run, we are looking forward to the ability to hold our Halloween 5k in late October, so please watch for emails and announcements.
We thank you for your past support and look forward to holding TWO great races next year.
