JULY 15, 2017 – Road To Emmaus 2 Mile Walk & 12K Run is a free charity / fund-raising event. All we ask is that you bring an item of need for the poor and homeless as your registration. You can also make a donation at the level of your choosing OR become a fund raiser. All donations go directly to those served by Road to Emmaus Ministry. Emmaus Ministry takes the Gospel to the streets by serving the needy at the Saint Marianne Cope Center for Outreach, the Catholic Charities Emergency Shelter's for Men and Women, the Bishop Foery Foundation and the Rescue Mission. Find out more about Road to Emmaus Ministry at http://emmausministry.org or you can make a donation directly to Road The Emmaus Ministry at http://emmausministry.org/donate-now-2.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BECOME A FUNDRAISER OR IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE BUT WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MONETARY DONATION PLEASE (CLICK HERE).

All participants must bring their donated item(s) with them on the morning of the event. A list of items to donate is below. All participants are asked to stick to the sidewalks, obey all traffic signals and safe running and walking rules. Police presence will be available for the safety of all participants. *Donated item(s) can be left at Columbus Circle before the start of either the walk or run.

THE 12K RUN WILL BEGIN AT 8:00 AM and will be 7.5 miles (12k) or 60 stadia the distance from Jerusalem to Emmaus as mentioned in Luke 24:13. The run route will go past the Rescue Mission and Catholic Charities Men’s Shelter, loop out to St. Marianne Cope Center for outreach and finish back at Columbus Circle. There will be several water stops along the course with an optional stop and guided tour at the 12k turnaround point which is at the Saint Marianne Cope Center for Outreach, 4335 South Salina Street.  Download course map below for more details.

WHY IS THE RUN A 12K? 12k or 60 stadia is the distance from Jerusalem to Emmaus as mentioned in Luke 24:13-31. On the road to Emmaus two disciples meet a stranger, who turned out to be Jesus. The recognition of Christ to those disciples filled their hearts with hope. By supporting Emmaus Ministry, we too bring hope and the presence of Christ to the homeless and poor on the streets of Syracuse.

THE 2 MILE WALK WILL BEGIN AT 8:15 AM and will be a approximately 2 miles. The walk route will go past the Rescue Mission and Catholic Charities Men’s Shelter and finish back at Columbus Circle. A stop and optional guided tour of the Catholic Charities Men’s Shelter will be available.  Download course map below for more details.

WHY IS THE WALK 2 MILES? The phrase, “Going The Extra Mile” comes from Matthew 5:41 that says, “If someone asks you to go one mile with them, go with them two.” By supporting Emmaus Ministry and extending mercy to others we go that second mile.

REMEMBER, THIS IS NOT A RACE. All participants are asked to stick to the sidewalks, obey all traffic signals and safe running and walking rules. Police presence will be available for the safety of all participants. After the run and walk there will be bagels, bananas, water and Gatorade available... Plus, a special Open House at the St. Marianne Cope Center for Outreach, 4335 South Salina Street.

ROAD TO EMMAUS MINISTRY is a dynamic ministry that brings the presence of the Catholic Church to the poor, hungry, isolated, and homeless of the south side and the city of Syracuse, New York. By providing food, drink, clothing, visiting the sick and burying the dead, Emmaus Ministry puts flesh to the Gospels, in a true “missionary evangelist” spirit – “Taking the Gospel to the Streets.”  Road to Emmaus Walk & Run will give parishioners, students and families the opportunity to join the ministry and take to the streets on a “ROAD TO EMMAUS” journey. Together we will help support the good work of the Road to Emmaus Ministry and in the process improve both our physical and spiritual lives.
