Description

Thank you for your interest in the McKirdy Micro Marathons!

As we all know, the past year has been an incredibly challenging time. Our first and foremost goal with these events is to give you a safe, close-to-home marathon with as low of a risk of cancellation as possible. Of course, we don't have much control over how COVID-19 might impact our ability to go ahead with the event. Local regulations may cause us to need to cancel at last minute. Safety for the runners AND for the community will always be our number one priority. Our goal is to keep these marathons at very low capacity, with COVID regulations in place, in order to keep everyone as safe as possible and mitigate the risk of cancellation to the highest extent possible.

Regardless of local mandates, all participants will be required to wear a mask except for when they are actively participating in the event (that is, once you start running you may remove your mask. If you are not running, you are expected to have a mask on). We highly discourage spectators but if you are planning on bringing a family member or friend, we require them to wear a mask at all times. This is for everyone's safety. If you're not comfortable with wearing a mask, we'd kindly request that you decline to participate.

The Connecticut race will take place at Rockland Lake State Park in Congers, NY over two different weekends: 04/17 and 05/02. The capacity for the April race is 40 runners and the capacity for the May race is 45 runners.

Course

The course starts with a "short loop" of roughly 2.6 miles... then goes into 8 FULL loops (roughly 2.94 miles each loop).

The course is flat and fast, with approximately 25 feet of elevation gain per loop. There is a Strava map depicting one loop for your reference here.

USATF certification can be found HERE

COVID-19 Safety

Participating in any event obviously carries a certain amount of risk, but we are committed to doing everything possible to lower the risk as much as possible and keep your safety and the community's safety as the number one priority.

COVID Mitigations for this race include:

  • temperature checks and COVID questionnaires at bib pickup
  • starting procedures that allow for social distancing at the start, at aid stations, and out on the course
  • masks are required for all participants, volunteers, and spectators
  • participants are only allowed to remove their mask when they are actively exercising
  • aid stations will provide sealed bottles of water only, there will be no food or open containers
  • aid station tables will be separated by 6 feet, allowing multiple participants to retrieve water without violating social distancing guidelines
  • the event will have signage reminding people of the mask and social distancing requirements

Start Line Procedure

ALL RUNNERS MUST WEAR A MASK WHILE IN THE STARTING AREA! Failure to do so will result in disqualification. We highly recommend a Buff or something that can be easily pulled down once you're running, so you'll have it on you at the finish as well.

Aid Stations

Aid stations will offer bottled water ONLY - the aid station locations are TBD. We expect runners to be carrying their own nutrition (gels, chews, waffles, etc). Please do not litter on the course. There will be designated drop areas following each water station with a volunteer to assist in depositing your trash.

Bib Pickup

We will host bib pickup the day before the race at Darien Running Company (14 Brook St. Darien, CT).

Bib pickup at DRC will be from 2-6pm.

DAY OF RACE bib pick-up will be from 5:30am - 6:00am - please arrive on time.

Parking, Bathrooms, and Gear Check

The closest parking will be Parking Lot #5 as well as Parking Lot #4. Parking is $10 for the day.

There will be no gear check for the race. Anything left behind in the staging area at the start will be disposed of. Please leave all valuables in the car!

Deferrals, Transfers, and Refunds

There will be no deferrals as we have no idea if we plan to hold this event in 2022 😂

Transfers are not allowed.

Refunds: If we need to cancel prior to 2 weeks before the event date, we will fully refund your registration fee minus the processing charge. If we need to cancel within 2 weeks of the event date, we will refund 75% of your registration fee minus the processing charge. We hope to avoid this situation at all costs.
