Description

Join us for the 20th Anniversary of Run to the Moon and the 53rd Anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing -- 7.16.2022 at Wapakoneta, Ohio, the boyhood home of Neil Armstrong.

This race offers both a 5k and 10k race distance along with the 1 Mile distance.    Runner Amenities include: Complimentary entry to the Armstrong Air and Space Museum.   Runner and walkers in the 5K /10K, 1 mile Bling Run and the Virtual Run will receive the custom 20th Anniversary Medal.

Run to the Moon celebrates 3 milestones this year: 20th Anniversary of the race, 50th Anniversary of the Armstrong Air & Space Museum and the 53rd Anniversary of Apollo 11.

Featured guests include Astronauts from Shuttle Missions and back for a second year are the Frogmen that pulled out Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins out of the Apollo 11 capsule after splashdown back in 1969.  That event made history around the world and we are sharing with you the first people that came in contact with the astronauts after they came back from the moon on that historic day!

The Astronauts and Frogmen will be available for Meet & Greets.  Autograph Sessions  and speaking engagements will be offered at the museum.  Check the Museum schedule for times.

This event starts and finishes at the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta OH, the Birthplace of Neil Armstrong.  The race is a run/walk and has many unique features including:  Space Themed Music,  Space Facts along the courses, Moon Pies, and tours of the Museum.  Don't miss out on this amazing and educational experience!

FAQs

Q: When is packet pick up?

A: Race Day packet pick up is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED because we have limited volunteers and everyone always is a bit too stressed waiting in line before the race, so the Race Day packet pickup we offer will start at 6:30am. The race will start on time at 8:15 (10K) and 8:30 (5K and 1 Mile) with no exceptions. We offer Early Packet Pick up for local runners is THURSDAY July 14th from 5-7pm at RIVERSIDE ART CENTER, located on the outdoor patio. Address is 2 Willipie Street Wapakoneta.  This is in the heart of Downtown Wapakoneta.  Pick up your packet, and stay for the FAMOUS BED RACES!    Friends or family members may pick up your packet for you if they have your confirmation information.  ** NOTE, we added an early packet pick up on Friday 7/15/22 from 4 to 6pm at the Armstrong Air & Space Museum.                Race Day packet pick up starts at 7am.

Q: For Virtual Runners that paid for shipping when are the packets mailed?

A: We receive the shirts and medals during race week, and our volunteers assemble the packets on Thursday and Friday so we can ship out beginning on Monday after the race.

Q: What is the plan in case of inclement weather?

A: On race day, if thunderstorms and lightning are present the event will be delayed up to 2 hours.  In the case of a lengthy delay, the 10K event will be cancelled and runners will only run 5K.

Q: Do we have to wear a mask when we run?

A:  No. Wearing a mask is currently not required.  This may change if we receive directives from the Auglaize County or State Department of Health and we will comply with any order.

Q: Must spectators wear a mask?

A:  No.  Wearing a mask is currently not required.  This may change if we receive directives from the Auglaize County or State Department of Health and we will comply with any order.

Q; I have a medical condition and I am in a high risk group that is susceptible to infection.  May I come to the race?

A: No.  If you have a medical condition please take advantage of our Virtual race option so you are not exposed to hundreds of other runners.

Q: How will we get our medals?

A: Runners at the actual race: Medals will be handed out at the finish line. Runners for the Virtual Race: Medals will be included in their packets.

Q: Can I change my event?

A: Yes. If you signed up for the actual race and now can't make it or feel uncomfortable running with hundreds of others that's ok.  You can Transfer to the Virtual Run.   Perhaps you signed up for the actual run but want to change your race distance (usually people get more realistic about their training and want to switch from the 10K to the 5K or to the 1 Mile)  That's ok.  You can switch distance.   Find your registration confirmation email and go to Manage Registration.  From the webpage you land on look at the bottom area and Transfer Event.   Then you can do the switch you want at no charge.

Q: Are there age group awards?

A: Yes, there are age group awards for the 5K and 10K for runners in the actual (not virtual) race.

Q. How do I contact you if I have questions?

A: There is a RACE CONTACT INFO form on this website with a green button that says QUESTIONS?

SEE YOU AT THE MOON!  :)

Virtual Run

How a Virtual Run Works:

If you have a conflict with the race date or you feel more comfortable not running at the actual race, or if we must switch the actual race to a virtual race due to government directives or health concerns you can still get all of the great race bling.  You will pick up your materials at the regular packet pickup locations.  We will notify you of these dates. If you paid Shipping & Handling then we will mail your packet to you the week after the race.

Complete  your run/walk anytime after the pick up dates, as convenient for you.  This can be outside, or on a treadmill.  We do not require you to submit your race times to us.  We trust you.
We will keep all race participants informed through email, and updates on this webpage.
