Course Map with Exchanges

We will have water at the Start/Finish line and at Main City Park and bathrooms will be available at both locations within walking distance.  We will have water at the Palmblad exchange and one Porta Potty.  If you need more fluid than that, please consider carrying it during your run. We will have limited quantities of Gu available also.  Since this is an out and back you will pass by each aid station twice.

The distances of each leg are as follows:  Leg 1 (3.5 Miles), Leg 2 (3.9 Miles) Leg 3 (2.2 Miles), Leg 4 (3.5 Miles).  The number of relay participants will determine how many of the legs you run and the total distance.

Breakfast and Warming Area at the Boring Grange

A pancake breakfast, provided by the Sam Barlow Culinary Students, will be provided for all racers and volunteers.  Hot coffee, provided by Legacy Coffee, and breakfast will be served inside the Boring Grange  located at 27861 SE Grange St. Boring, Or 97009.  It is about a 5 minute walk from the finish line.   Vendors, and bag check will be in the covered area at Boring Station Trail head near the start/finish line.  Awards for best costume for each relay group and individual will be given out at the Grange at 11:30am Race Morning.

Volunteers Information for 3 Person Teams and 4 Person Teams

Please have your volunteer sign up for a spot under volunteer registration on the race website.  We really need volunteers to sign up on the web site.  It takes a lot of volunteers to help a relay race go off successfully.  Be sure you "thank" your race volunteers on race day!

Relay Transportation

Relay Transport

As with most relays, transportation of relay members to the exchanges is up to each team. So, your team should arrange how to proceed so that everyone gets to the exchanges and then back to the start and finish. We will assist by having a box at the aid stations where you can leave your keys, but (and this is important) the keys need to be clearly marked with either your team name or team number so your other members can find them and actually drive the vehicle back. We are not responsible for lost keys or identifying your keys, so please make sure you mark them well before the race. Here are some tips:

Two person relay – there is only one exchange location and that is at Main City Park in Gresham. It is recommended that the second runner drive to the exchange and park, then when handing off the baton, second runner can either give the keys to the first runner or leave them in the box for the first runner runner. Then, as the second runner heads back to Boring, the first runner can drive the vehicle back.

Three person relay – there is only one exchange place and that is at the Palmblad/Telford Road aid station along the Springwater.  In this case, the second and third runners drive to the exchange and park. The first runner can wait at the exchange for the second runner to return, then they both can drive to the start finish while the third runner completes the relay. Because there will always be two runners at this exchange, there is no need to use the key box and the third runner can hand the keys over to the first runner before starting the last leg.

Four person relay – This one is a bit more complicated, because you have to both drop off runners at the two exchange locations and then pick them up once they finish. This one is much easier if you have a support person driving for you, but a team can also do it on their own if necessary. Before the race starts, the second, third and fourth runners should drive to the two exchange areas, where the third runner drives and drops off runners two and four at Palmblad and then drives and parks at Main City Park.  When runner two gets to main City Park and makes the baton exchange, they retrieve the keys and drive back to the Palmblad exchange and pick up both runners one and three and head back to Boring. Not really that complicated, but just a bit more than the other two relays.

Please refer to the map under the Course Map and Exchanges section to see the placement of the exchanges.

The Goal of this Race

Eastwind Running and Endurance is putting this race on to award a scholarship in the Spring of 2023 for local high school students  who participate in physical fitness and incorporate it into their busy lives. They don't have to be varsity athletes or winners of a full ride athletic scholarship to find value in fitness!  We as adults, try to model this in hopes our youth will see the benefits of staying fitness-focused.   We want to give back to our youth with two college scholarship: $2,500 and $2,000 award each year. Thank you for supporting our youth by participating and showing that fitness can be fun, challenging, and rewarding!  We have also raised enough money to buy a Freedom Chair for Ainsley's Angels which allows a person with disabilities to participate in a local running event!  We are firm believers that fitness is for everyone!

Over All Finisher Awards

We will have 1st Place Over All Finisher Awards for each race event in Male, Female and Mixed.   Awards will be at the Boring Grange at 11:30am race morning.

(Please note these are not done by age group based on the small size of the races and multiple race events)

Chip Timing by Huber Timing

We are using Disposable Chip timers.  For the Individual Half Marathon racer, you will have a chip on your bib.  For Relay Teams, we will only have chips on the first and last runner's bib as we are not timing each leg of the relay only the over all time it takes your team to complete it. Please be aware of this as you pass out your bibs on race morning to your team mates.  Also, If you are running the start leg,  so your chip does not record your finish time early, after you start the race please do not cross the finish line or come within 20ft of the finish line until your last team member finishes.
