Description

Come run or walk the Best Dam Run! This point-to-point course features views of pristine waters, shading forests, interesting geology and bald eagles, osprey and colorful waterfowl.

Participants are bused approximately 6 miles east of Estacada to the North Fork Lake start. Both the 10K and half marathon courses meander along the wild and scenic Clackamas River for most of your journey to the downtown Estacada finish line and beer garden.

Post-race brunch, awards, raffle prizes and free beer garden activities will take place in the Clackamas River Growlers parking lot and gardens, SE 4th Ave between Broadway and SE Main.  After your brunch, beer/cider and snacks, stroll along artsy shops and venues of Estacada.

This event is limited to 750 entrants so don't wait and register now.

Race Details

1)     Start Times: The half marathon walkers start at 8:30am. The 10K walkers start at 8:45am. Everyone else starts at 9:00am. The course closes at noon.

2)     Buses: All participants will be bussed from Estacada to the start. Check in at 4th and Main, then walk one block to Main and SE Jeremy Loveless Ave to catch a bus.  The first bus will start loading at 7am and the last bus leaves at 8:30am.  If you miss the last bus you must have someone drop you at the start. All walkers need to catch a bus as early as possible.

3)     Parking: on-street parking and lots available throughout Estacada.

4)     Packet Pick-up: at the square near 4th and Main, from 6:30am to 8:30am. No ID is required.

5)     Drop Bags: You may leave a drop bag at the start line, and it will be brought back to 4th & Main on the last bus. Bags will not be provided, so please bring your own. Put your bib number on your bag.

6)     10K Course: The 10K is a point to point, starting at the east end of Faraday Road, heading west to connect with Highway 224, then finishing in Estacada on 4th Avenue just off Broadway Street. Stay in the coned bike lane on Highway 224. Follow the instructions of the certified flaggers on the course.  Here is a link: ORRC Best Dam Run 10K - MapMyRun

7)     Half Marathon Course: The half marathon is a “Z-fold” course. Halfers start at the east end of Faraday Road (the same place as the 10K), head west on Faraday Road for 3.45 miles and turn back to the start, then turn back again to run west again. Connect with Highway 224, then finish in Estacada on 4th Avenue just off Broadway Street.  Halfers do (3.45 x 2) + 6.23 = 13.1. Stay in the coned bike lane on Highway 224. Follow the instructions of the certified flaggers on the course. Here is a link: ORRC Best Dam Run Half Marathon - MapMyRun

8)     Potties: There will be 4 portapotties at the finish and 8 eight at the start, so get on the bus as soon as possible. This means the halfers will have potties at mile 7.35.

9)     Certification: Both the 10K and half marathon courses have been USATF certified.

10)  Bib Check for Half Marathon: To verify that they’ve run/walk the full distance, when half marathoners turn around at the start (at about Mile 7) they must show their bibs to the course marshals so the numbers can be recorded.  Failure to do so will result in a DQ.

11)  Aid Stations: There are two aid stations on the course, at about Mile 3 and at the start. 10K participants will pass an aid station at Mile 3. Halfers will pass aid stations at Miles 3, 3.9, 7.35, and 10.8.  Aid stations will be stocked with water, Gatorade and Gu, plus sweet and salty snacks.

12)  Cupless: This event is cupless—i.e. we won’t be providing paper cups at aid stations.  Each person is expected to carry their own cup or hydration system.  We will be providing free cups for those people that forget/don’t have a reusable cup on race day.

13)  Weather: Check the forecast and dress accordingly.  It may be hot, so hydrate pre-race and at the aid stations.

14)  Socks: All finishers will receive a pair of custom Fitsock Best Dam Run socks. Due to supply issues, there won’t be new finisher medals this year.  There are medals from 2021 and 2022 available if you’d like one. Supplies are limited.

15)  T-shirts: We won’t be offering T-shirts this year, but let us know if you’d like one.  If there’s enough interest, we’ll offer shirts in 2024.

16)  Headphones/Strollers/Dogs: The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged at this race. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, ORRC encourages a headphone-free environment. Strollers, baby joggers and dogs are not permitted.

17)  Where to Cheer: the first 4.5 miles (of the 10K) and first 11.4 miles (of the half) is on a private PGE road, which is not open for traffic. Bicyclists and pedestrians are permitted on Faraday Road. The remaining course on Highway 224 is open to traffic.  The northbound lane of Broadway and one block of 4th Ave between Broadway and Main will be closed to traffic; otherwise the streets will be open.

18)  Awards and Raffles: Plaques to overall winners in both the 10K and half marathon, in both walking and running categories.  This includes open and masters divisions, in male, female and non-binary categories. Ribbons three deep in five year age groups. There will be two awards ceremonies, at about 10:30am (10K) and 11:30 (half).  If you can’t stay for the ceremony, you are welcome to pick up your plaque/ribbon at your convenience. Awards will not be mailed.

19)  Post Race Food and Drink: It’s a short walk from the finish line to the lot where packet pick-up was earlier.  Participants and volunteers will each get one food ticket which can be redeemed for a burrito and fruit at the Fraiche Eats tent. Friends and family are welcome to purchase additional food at the available food trucks, including Kristy’s Down Home Cooking truck. Participants and Volunteers who are 21 and older will each get a ticket which can be redeemed for a beer or cider at the Clackamas River Growler. ID is required and alcohol must be consumed inside the designated beer garden. Soda and chocolate milk will also be available.
