Pioneer Paddle: Black River Kayak Race – Participant Waiver and Release of Liability

In consideration of being permitted to participate in the Pioneer Paddle: Black River Kayak Race (“Event”), I, the undersigned participant (or parent/guardian, if participant is under 18), acknowledge, appreciate, and agree to the following:
Assumption of Risk
I understand that participating in a water-based activity such as kayaking, canoeing, or paddleboarding carries inherent risks, including but not limited to drowning, capsizing, collision with other watercraft or natural obstacles, and exposure to adverse weather or water conditions. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with my participation in this Event.
Health and Fitness
I certify that I am physically fit, have sufficient skill and experience in paddling, and have not been advised otherwise by a qualified medical professional. I am responsible for ensuring that my personal watercraft and safety equipment (including life jacket) meet appropriate safety standards.
Compliance with Rules
I agree to comply with all Event rules, instructions, and directions given by Event organizers, volunteers, and safety personnel. I will wear a U.S. Coast Guard–approved personal flotation device (PFD) at all times while on the water.
Release of Liability
I, for myself and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives, and next of kin, hereby release and hold harmless the Event organizers, Aitkin Memorial District Library (Croswell Library), City of Croswell, event sponsors, volunteers, and their respective officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability, claims, demands, losses, or damages arising out of or related to my participation in this Event, whether caused by negligence or otherwise, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Photo and Media Release
I grant permission to Event organizers and sponsors to use photographs, videos, or other media of my participation for promotional purposes, without compensation.
Minor Participants (if applicable)
As the parent or legal guardian of the minor named below, I consent to their participation and agree to all terms of this waiver on their behalf.
