GOOD FIGHT VIRTUAL 5K FAQS

We know participating in a virtual event isn’t the same as taking it all in, in person. We would much rather be there with all of you to cheer you on and watch you cross the finish line! But since 2020 is a little different for us all, we’re moving ahead with a new plan and hope you’ll still join us and our mission.

If you’re debating whether or not you should join us, know that we and the rest of the Traverse City Track Club Good Fight 5K Remembrance Run Community will have your back through it all.

Additionally, see below for helpful information regarding our virtual event and what to expect if you choose to embark on the Good Fight 5K Virtual experience.

Please email info@tctrackclub.com with additional questions.

IS THE GOOD FIGHT 5K REMEMBRANCE RUN A NEW NAME FOR THE REMEMBRANCE RUN?

Yes! Traverse City Track Club has changed the name and logo to include a way to honor those who are “fighting” or who have fought cancer the best way they can.  We also included the new color of purple to include reference to all types of cancer, including breast cancer.

WHAT IS A VIRTUAL RACE?

A virtual run event is similar to a traditional running event except the participant completes it entirely on their own.  There is not a required location that the event must be completed nor a mandatory time.  A virtual run event creates positive motivation by awarding the participant for their completed activity.  Virtual runs have become important to non-profits like ours to enable us to continue to give back and create awareness about the needs of those dealing with cancer. With your help, we can all stay active and stay safe.

HOW DOES A VIRTUAL RUN WORK?

Participants choose to support a favorite event and cause just as they would choose a live running event.  Once the participant registers, the next step is to complete the distance and earn the finisher medal.  The distance set by the event that they register for can be completed at any location the participant chooses.  In most cases the participant may also choose run, walk, bike, indoors or outside.  The choice is completely up to the participant.  Also, they are not required to complete the virtual race within any given time.  The important thing is to at least finish the event.   After the participant has completed the required distance they will then submit their time that it took to complete via our results page.  Finally, once the results have been received the finisher medal has been earned and will be sent directly to the participant.

HOW DO I STAY SAFE WHILE PARTICIPATING?

Keeping you safe is our top priority--that's why we're holding a virtual event. We expect all participants to follow all local, state, and federal laws while participating, which includes abiding by all health guidance and restrictions in your area prior to undertaking any physical activity. These may include minimum distances from other people, crowd sizes, and/or protective gear requirements like masks or gloves. See the latest federal guidance from the CDC.

IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE TO COMPLETE A VIRTUAL RACE?

There are no limitations on age.  We actually encourage all ages to take on the Good Fight 5K in support of their loved ones.

CAN I REGISTER MY WHOLE FAMILY AT ONCE?

As long as any physical items you order (give away, medals) are set to go to the same address, you can register as many people as you'd like at once. Just add multiple registrations to your cart.

DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE THE ENTIRE VIRTUAL RACE DISTANCE ALL AT ONCE?

No, The Good Fight 5K Remembrance Run is for everyone no matter what fitness level.  Whether you are an avid runner or walker, you can split your race over a few days or weeks and they can be in any amount of distances as you feel comfortable with! You will still however log the event as one run.

WILL IT BE A SET COURSE OR ONE WE CAN MAKE UP?

Participants will be choosing their own route for the virtual event. It would be unsafe (particularly in these social distancing days) for us to provide a route that all could use at any specific time.

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY RESULTS FOR THE VIRTUAL RACE?

Currently, The Good Fight 5K Remembrance Run is based on the honor system for submitting your results.  Once you complete the event your registered for, simply go to our results page record your time, and then submit. You will have from October 4th to October 16th to submit your results. Click here to see instructions for uploading your results!

WILL I HAVE TO USE MY PHONE, RUNNING WATCH OR OTHER DEVICE TO RECORD IT AND UPLOAD RESULTS?

We’re going to be on the honor system for completing the event.  However, we ask that participants upload their finish time so we have a results page. You will have the option to upload your results with a GPS link if you like.

WHEN DO I RECEIVE MY FINISHER MEDAL?

We plan to send your finisher medal after everyone has had a chance to complete the event by October 16th, 2020.   If medals can be produced earlier and you have inquiries about receiving your finisher’s medal and race packet prior to your event, simply send us an email at info@tctrackclub.com and we will try to accommodate that.

WHAT PARTICIPANT AMENITIES WILL I RECEIVE FOR THE VIRTUAL EVENT?

You will receive a "bammie" and medal (see above) for completing the event virtually and submitting your results.

Downloadable race bibs, and finisher certificates will be available through our registration platform.

I CHOSE TO PICK UP MY PACKET LOCALLY, HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Local Packet pick-up is Sunday, October 18, 12-1 p.m., drive-up style at Timber Ridge RV Resort main parking lot at 4050 Hammond Rd. Traverse City MI 49696.  Medal and bammie will be handed to registered finishers though the vehicle window.

DO I HAVE TO RUN THE VIRTUAL RACE, OR CAN I SUPPORT THE EVENT WITH MY ENTRY FEE AND NOT RUN?

Our goal is to get you up and moving and supporting the cause and creating awareness about Cancer prevention, whether you choose to complete your challenge outdoors or indoors with any 5K cardiovascular activity of your choice.

We also understand that many of our participants have different fitness levels. For those that need a little extra time you can also break up your distance into manageable segments.  Just make sure you add the full time when submitting your final results.

I DO NOT LIVE IN THE TRAVERSE CITY AREA, CAN I STILL REGISTER?

Of course! We encourage everyone to register. The Good Fight 5K Remembrance Run has included a shipping cost for sending the medal in our registration fee to accommodate this.

HOW MUCH OF MY REGISTRATION IS DONATED TO MUNSON HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION’S WOMEN’S CANCER FUND?

The Good Fight 5K Remembrance Run was started in as an effort to give our participants a way to give back as well as get healthy.  We have budgeted to donate up to $1250 toward the event and 100% of additional donations made by entrants will be donated to the Women’s Cancer Fund on your behalf.  In 26 years of the event since 1994, the event has enabled Traverse City Track Club to donate over $250,000 to the Munson Healthcare Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Fund.

WHEN DOES THE CHARITY RECEIVE THE DONATIONS?

The Good Fight 5K Remembrance Run donates monies from its events after reconciling within the same calendar year the event is held.  For the Good Fight 5K Remembrance Run this is accomplished before December 31st of each calendar year.

DOES THE GOOD FIGHT 5K REMEMBRANCE RUN OFFER REFUNDS?

We do understand that situations may come up where you may request a refund on your registration.  Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds on registrations.
