Race Details and Course Map
Start Line: Meet at the Start Line on Monroe Street near the South Hall of VBC
Finish Line: Inside the South Hall of VBC
Finish Line and Reuniting with Child: As each child crosses the finish line, they will receive their finisher’s medal. Then, they will be escorted, by race volunteers, to the food area, behind the finish line, to pick-up water and a snack. This area is also the Kids Reunion Area where parents/guardians will be reunited with their child/children. Parents/guardians will not be allowed to enter the Kids Reunion Area, cross the finish line with their child, or have access to the food area. This ensures the safety of each race participant.
Race Bibs: Race bibs must be worn on the front of shirts, so the numbers are visible. Prior to the start of the race, parents/guardians are required to detach the claim tag off their child’s race bib. The claim tag must be presented at the Kids Reunion Area for parents/guardians to be reunited with their child. If you have multiple children, please tear off the claim tags from all of the race bibs. Children will not be allowed to leave the Kids Reunion Area until their parent/guardian turns in their claim tag.
Course Sentries and Pacers: There will be assigned course sentries along the route, to make sure race participants stay on the course and do not get lost. There will also be pacers running with the children for guidance and assistance. These volunteers will have on yellow safety vests or long sleeve, yellow volunteer shirts. Parents/guardians will not be allowed on the racecourse, unless they are volunteering as a course sentry or pacer.
One Mile Race Route: The official race route begins on Monroe Street. Runners follow Monroe Street down to the Hampton Inns & Suites where they will make a U-Turn and run back to the South Hall of the VBCC where they will turn right towards the VBC South Hall entrance. From there runners will follow the road around the South Hall and enter the VBC through the rear entrance and run across the Rocket City Marathon Finish Line.
