In the lead up to Run Houston! Clear Lake, we have continued to evaluate all guidance on the constantly changing COVID-19 situation and monitor insight from federal, state and local authorities on regulations impacting mass gathering and sporting events.
Based on the current guidance, as well as in discussion with our partners at the University of Houston - Clear Lake, it is with great regret we must inform you that we will not be able to hold the 2020 Run Houston! Clear Lake event as scheduled on May 31, 2020. At this time, we must cancel all non-virtual events. This is certainly not the outcome we wanted, and we can assure you we have been working to vet out all options for holding this event. That being said, the safety of our Participants, Spectators, Volunteers, Staff, Sponsors and Community is our top priority. Unfortunately, postponement or rescheduling is not a viable option based on multiple considerations.
Though this news is disappointing, we have also been working to provide options for how you choose to manage your registration. Please see below for details - you will choose one of the two options below on THIS FORM:
You have the option to transfer from the “live” 5K, 10K or Kids 1K event into the 2020 Virtual Race at no additional cost to you. For those that have not run one of our events virtually before, see details on what our Virtual Race entails on our website HERE. Please note that we will be extending the traditional results submission timeline for this event to ensure that all participants have adequate time to complete their run.
After completing your race virtually, you will be mailed your 2020 event shirt, finisher medal and race bib, and you will be counted as a finisher of the 2020 event. For anyone who has already participated in the first two events of the 2020 Series (2020 Run Houston! Sam Houston Race Park and 2020 Run Houston! Minute Maid Park), you must choose this option to remain eligible to be a 2020 Series Finisher.
This deferral is being offered with no fees or additional cost - you will have a prepaid entry into the 2021 Run Houston! Clear Lake Event (Date TBD).
Your deferral will be applicable for any race distance you choose to run at the 2021 event - for example if you were planning on running the 5K at this year’s event you will be able to choose the 5K, 10K, or Virtual Race at next year’s event. As the 2021 event is not yet open for registration, you will have the option to pick your distance when you claim your deferral at the time registration opens for the 2021 event.
We ask that you please make a selection (Option #1 or Option #2) on the linked form by Monday May 11th, 2020. If you need additional time or have questions about your options, please let us know by reaching out via firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be doing our best to respond to all inquiries and questions in a timely manner. Additionally, some of you may have received an email earlier this week reminding you of an upcoming price increase for Run Houston! Clear Lake. We apologize for this communication, as it was on oversight based on the originally scheduled price increase. All price increases have been halted for this event as of the time of this email.
This continues to be a challenging time for our community, and we wish we were able to come together and run as originally scheduled at Run Houston! Clear Lake. Per our policy, refunds of registration fees are not able to be offered. As is the nature of putting on a running event, many of the costs associated with producing the event are paid out well in advance of race day. We are a small family-owned business, and our goal is to offer you the best options we can that allow you to choose how you would prefer to proceed. We appreciate your understanding, and look forward to seeing you at a finish line in the future.
