Run Houston! Sam Houston Race Park

Fri January 1 - Sun January 10 Houston, TX 77064 US
COVID-19 Updates

We are less than two weeks out from our originally scheduled race date of 1/1/2021, and we wanted to provide an update on the current state of the first race in the 2021 Run Houston! Race Series, Run Houston! Sam Houston Race Park.  Specifically, we wanted to provide information regarding the potential to add live events to accompany this year’s existing virtual events.

Over the past few months, we have been working all possible options with Sam Houston Race Park and the County to determine the viability of a live race event.   This included potential changes to the course and event layout, COVID safety plans, and many more options.  After working with all necessary contacts and reviewing plans with our Partners, unfortunately, we are not able to move forward with hosting a live event. The 2021 Run Houston! Sam Houston Race Park event will remain Virtual only.

There were many things that went into this decision, and we were really pushing to ensure that we could start off 2021 back at a live race.  At the end of the day, the safety of Participants, Crew, Emergency Workers and Volunteers is the most important factor.  We also want to ensure that when we get back to live racing it is done so professionally and with all the necessary permitting approvals to provide a safe and well-executed event for you the Runners.

We waited to provide this update until we were absolutely sure that a live race was not possible, so based on that we will be extending the registration period for this event to provide plenty of time for those that wish to register.  Registration will remain open through Sunday 1/10/21.

We continue to plan for future events and hope to be back to live racing as soon as possible.  We appreciate your support and understanding and are wishing everyone a Happy Holidays.

- Run Houston! Race Series Crew

Currently, registration is open for the Virtual Race only.  We are working with Sam Houston Race Park, Harris County, and all necessary officials to determine our ability to hold a live event as originally planned. We will be communicating via email and social media as we continue to learn more and solidify plans. In the meantime, you can check out our FAQs here to learn more.

We want to ensure you that as we head in to 2021, we will continue to take the safety of our Participants, Spectators, Volunteers, Staff, Sponsors and Community very seriously and will always make the safety of all involved the top priority as we make decisions on future plans.
