FAQs

Q:  Will there be a live race?

A:  A final decision has not yet been made.  We continue to evaluate all guidance on the constantly changing COVID-19 situation and monitor insight from Federal, State, Local, and University authorities on regulations impacting mass gatherings and sporting events.

Q:  Why aren’t you opening registration for the live race even if you aren’t sure it will happen?

A:  As much as we would love to open up live race registration, we feel strongly that it would be a disservice to our runners to set false expectations and accept live race registration fees.  At this time, we simply don’t have enough information to feel confident we can receive all the approvals and permits necessary and also ensure a safe race experience for all involved.  We would much prefer to communicate a pleasant surprise in the near future than have to cancel a live race event, if at all possible.

Q:  If I register for the virtual race can I transfer to the live race if it opens?

A:  If it is determined that we are able to hold a live event, we plan to provide an opportunity for participants signed up for the Virtual Race to transfer to the live race.  The exact process, number of available spots, etc. will be communicated via email, this website and social media if and when we are able to open registration for a live event.

Q:  If the ability to transfer to a live race is offered, will there be any additional charge?

A:  The only additional amount which might be owed for a transfer to the live race would be the price difference between the virtual race and the live race.  Once we know for sure if we can plan to hold a live event, how large of an event we might be able to hold, and the costs associated with complying with all regulations and ensuring a safe experience for participants we will then determine the pricing for the event.  If there is no price difference between the virtual event and the live event, then no additional amount will be due.

Q:  I selected a deferral when the 2019 UH live race was cancelled.  What are my options?

A:  You have multiple options for how to manage your deferral:

  • You may use your deferral for a 50% discount to register for the 2020 UH Virtual Race.
  • You may retain your deferral to receive a 50% discount to the 2020 live UH race if it is determined that we will be able to offer a live race.  In such a case, participants who deferred from the 2019 UH race will be offered the first opportunity to register for the 2020 race, before registration is opened to the general public.
  • You may retain your deferral to receive a 50% discount to the 2021 Run Houston! University of Houston race.
