Due to the historic rainfall and catastrophic flooding from Tropical Storm Imelda, we are sorry to announce that the 2019 Run Houston! University of Houston race scheduled for this Sunday September 22nd must be canceled.  We made this difficult decision based on two factors:
1.  University of Houston Campus Closure:  The University of Houston made the decision to close campus today (Friday 9/20), and keep campus closed through the weekend.  This means that only essential personnel will be allowed on campus and all events scheduled for this weekend (our race included) are therefore canceled.  We worked late last night and early this morning to ensure that there was nothing we could do to keep the event as scheduled, but we do respect the University’s decision.

2.  Safety:  Your safety, as well as the safety of our volunteers and crew, is our number one priority.  With the already dangerous road conditions, and more uncertain weather over the next 48 hours, we have a responsibility to ensure that runners are able to safely travel to and participate in any event we hold.  The current situation in the Houston area does not allow that.   
What does that mean anyone registered?  Our standard policy is that we do not offer refunds for events, and the nature of putting on a running event is that substantial costs are paid out in advance of race day.  That being said, we understand this is a unique scenario, and we have been working hard this morning to recoup costs for anything we can in order to offer all registered participants options in which they can decide what is best for them.  Below you will find two options, and we ask participants to fill out THIS FORM by Tuesday 9/24/19 to choose your selection:


-Option #1 – Transfer Your Registration to the 2019 Virtual Race:  You have the option to transfer from the live 5K, 10K or Kids 1K event into the 2019 Virtual Race at no additional cost to you.  See details on what our Virtual Race entails on our website HERE.  After completing your race virtually, you will be mailed your 2019 event shirt and finisher medal, and you will be counted as a finisher of the 2019 event.  With the recognition that some of you may be dealing with flood-related issues, we are extending the normal virtual results submission process.  All runners in the 2019 Virtual Race will have until Sunday, October 6th, 2019 to submit results.   For anyone who has already participated in the first 3 events of the year (Sam Houston Race Park, Minute Maid Park, Clear Lake) and is on track to become a 2019 Series Finisher, you must choose this option to continue to be eligible for being a 2019 Series Finisher. 
-Option #2 – Partial Deferral Of Your 2019 Registration: If you choose not to transfer to the 2019 Virtual Race we are offering an option to partially defer your 2019 entry, which will allow you to register early for next year’s 2020 Run Houston! University of Houston event at a 50% discount off of early registration prices.  By choosing this option you will not receive your 2019 shirt and medal, and will not be counted as a finisher of the 2019 event. 

Anyone who does not complete the form prior to the cutoff on Tuesday 9/24/19 will be automatically transferred into the 2019 Virtual Race. For anyone who was already registered for the Virtual Race, you do not need to take any action.  Please note: You are making an individual selection on the form.  If you registered multiple people for the event, you will need to fill out the form for each individual participant.

We sincerely hope that each of you and your families, pets and homes will remain safe and unharmed while Imelda runs its course.  Thank you for your support, and we appreciate your understanding with this difficult situation.

Due to the developing weather situation and flooding roads, and in the interest of the safety of our participants, volunteers and crew, we are canceling the Thursday 9/19 (today's) packet pickup session at Academy Sports. Our number one priority is everyone's safety. Currently, we are planning to continue with the scheduled session for tomorrow, Friday 9/20. In addition, we will be adding a new packet pickup session on Saturday 9/21.   Please review the new schedule below, and be safe!

Happy race week!  As we get closer to this weekend, we wanted to get out some key race information.  Please ensure you read through all the information below.

We are monitoring the weather situation closely and making contingency plans as needed.  Our policy is that events are held rain or shine, with our main priority being the safety of all runners, crew and spectators.  In the event of inclement weather forecasts that could affect the event (i.e. course flooding, lightning, etc.) we will communicate with potentially impacted participants via social media, email and our websites.  Please ensure you are monitoring those communication methods to get the most up to date info we have to share.

Parking for this year's event will be available in lots 9C and 8A on campus.  For those that have run this event before, the lots for this year are different than previous years due to construction that is occurring on campus.  Please be sure to review the race site and parking map linked below to understand where parking is located.  We will also have parking attendants on site race morning to assist with directing traffic.

We expect heavy traffic on race morning, as we anticipate close to 2,500 runners at the event.  In addition to normal race traffic, there is also a rally at NRG Stadium being attended by the Prime Minister of India and President Trump scheduled on race morning from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.   With this rally, it is likely traffic will be increased around the city in addition to any road closures for President Trump’s arrival.  Please plan accordingly and give yourself plenty of time.   

Packet Pickup
Your race bib is given out at packet pickup (locations, dates, and times listed below and on the packet pickup section of our website HERE).  To expedite the packet pickup process, please bring your event confirmation email with your custom QR/bar code so we can scan you in.  A printed copy is not necessary, you can use your phone to display the QR code.  If you do use your phone, please make sure your screen brightness is set to max before getting to the check-in table.  You may pick up packets for friends and family, but you must bring a copy of their QR code with you to packet pickup.

We do have a race morning packet pickup option, though please be advised that based on previous years we expect long lines for race morning packet pickup.  If you do plan to pickup your packet race morning, please plan accordingly and leave plenty of time.  Reference the event schedule in this email and on our website to plan out your morning.  We will start all races at the scheduled time (pending any weather impacts), so we recommend being at the start line 10 minutes prior to the schedule start time.
