Buckle Design for Finishers

We have all been deeply impacted by the wave of Covid-19 across this country and around the world. We have been forced to lock in, hunker down, and ground ourselves in a new reality. While the worst is behind us we have several challenges ahead of us that if we work together we can mitigate with social distancing and just some home grown common sense!
I have spent the last 7 years coaching and directing races. I have never felt more disconnected with my athletes and with my race participants so I want to challenge you during these already difficult times to run 350 miles this summer from our beautiful mountains to our wave crashing ocean seas!

How does it work?

  • You have 16 weeks from June 1st through September 20th to complete 350 miles
    • You do not have to run the actual Mountains to Sea course
    • You can run, walk, or hike
    • You do not have to keep up with a weekly minimum.
    • The average mileage per week is around 24 miles (3.5 miles a day)
    • YOU CAN DO IT!

  • You can log miles using a few different methods but we prefer using a GPS Watch
    • Other methods include Google Maps, Fitness Apps, or Treadmill counted manually

  • Each Activity (run or walk) that you perform moves you along the course from Mountains to Sea
    • You can run wherever you would like trail or road!

  • Choose your Buckle
    • Mountains to Sea South Carolina
      • Ceasars head to Charleston
    • Mountains to Sea North Carolina
      • Mount Mitchell to Alligator State park
    • Mountains to Sea Georgia
      • Cloudland Canyon to Savannah
    • Mountains to Sea Virginia
      • Grayson Highlands to Back Bay Beach

  • Throughout the 16 weeks we will ask you to complete a GOOGLE form to update the standings and overall places
    • You can add as many activities as you would like during the 16 weeks
    • You can run, walk, or hike (no biking)
    • You can do multiple runs a day that add to your mileage total

  • On Sept. 20th we will total your mileage and any participant who completes more than 350 miles will receive a finishers buckle

Can I log miles from other races?
  • Absolutely! Running is not cancelled!
Where can I run?
  • A Track, Trail, Road, Treadmill, Around your house, or even in your house! Just get up and move!
I have never done an ultra marathon before is this for me?
  • Usually an ultra-marathon is based on running anything more than a marathon (typically a 50k) in one attempt. Due to the current state of canceled events around the world we are hoping to encourage more runners of all abilities to channel their inner ultra! Welcome to the dark side!
What if I do not have a GPS watch or smart phone with a fitness tracker?
  • We will allow you to track your progress manually if you are running on a treadmill or around your neighborhood but we highly encourage you to map out your run on Google Earth to get the most accurate measurement of your run.
What do I get for such foolishness!
  • An EPIC looking belt buckle! We will have three designs for our three courses (North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia) All competitors will receive an electronic bib to place their name, bib, and total mileage
