Salt Lake City Marathon

April 10 - 25, 2021
Deferrals from 2020

DEADLINE TO DEFER TO 2022: Sunday, January 16, 2021 (no exceptions)

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to cancel the live portion of our event in 2020 just weeks before our race was to take off from our familiar home on the University of Utah campus. It was crushing.

We are so grateful for the outpouring of support and understanding as we presented options to our athletes to either complete a virtual 2020 event or defer until 2021. The hope was that a live event in 2021 was something we could count on. Because of existing and expected restrictions on mass gatherings in Salt Lake City and the state of Utah and the current state of the vaccine rollout, it became clear that a live 2021 event would not be possible. Also important to us is acting as a responsible member of the Salt Lake community and avoid any potential contribution to the spread of COVID-19.

All athletes who did not participate in the 2020 virtual Salt Lake City Marathon have been deferred to the virtual 2021 Salt Lake City Marathon. We're going to make the most of the situation by putting on the best virtual event possible. All participants will have access to a fun and interactive race experience through the RaceJoy app. And, we're hooking you up with brand new premium apparel and finisher medals. You'll even offer a chance to earn additional swag while you train up as part of our brand new Salt Lake Fitness Challenge!

If the virtual race in 2021 does not work for you, you also have the option to defer to 2022 when a live event seems very likely. To defer to 2022, you will need to take action and process the deferral by Sunday, January 16 at 11:59pm:

Whether you participate in the 2021 virtual event or defer to 2022, ACTION IS REQUIRED FOR EVERYONE. Both options require you to claim your registration. Follow these five easy steps:

  1. Log into (or create an account if you don't already have one)
  2. Once you are logged in, click on the profile pic at the top right hand corner of your screen and select "Profile" on the dropdown menu.
  3. Scroll down to the "Hey, where are my events?" section and click on "Go Claim It."
  4. On the next screen, you'll see a list of names for registrations on RSU associated with the same email address as the one you used for your RSU account.
  5. Once you have found it, click on "Claim Account." You should then see the "Salt Lake City Marathon" event listed in your upcoming events section in your profile.

If you are deferring to 2022, you must also complete the next four (also easy) steps by January 16, 2021:

  1. Click on "Manage Registration."

  2. Click on "Defer Registration" at the top right hand corner of the screen

  3. Click on "Confirm Deferral."

  4. To verify you deferred to 2022 successfully, you can look just three (3) tabs over from "Upcoming Events" to "Deferrals." If you see the 2021 Salt Lake City Marathon on April 10, 2021 listed under deferrals (as in the screenshot below), you have aced the task of deferring!

Note: You will not see the 2022 event in your upcoming events at this time (the 2022 registration form is not yet built). We need to finalize the date and other logistics with the state, county, city, police, and other stakeholders before the 2022 event can be advertised. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
  5. You're done for now! We'll send out instructions later in 2021 when we launch 2022 registration and get you all set.

If you are having trouble finding your registration to claim it, you may have multiple accounts or listed as a sub account on someone else's profile with RunSignUp. Please see the articles below for additional help including step-by-step instructions with screenshots to convert sub accounts to primary accounts and merge accounts together.
