DEADLINE TO DEFER TO 2022: Sunday, January 16, 2021 (no exceptions)
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to cancel the live portion of our event in 2020 just weeks before our race was to take off from our familiar home on the University of Utah campus. It was crushing.
We are so grateful for the outpouring of support and understanding as we presented options to our athletes to either complete a virtual 2020 event or defer until 2021. The hope was that a live event in 2021 was something we could count on. Because of existing and expected restrictions on mass gatherings in Salt Lake City and the state of Utah and the current state of the vaccine rollout, it became clear that a live 2021 event would not be possible. Also important to us is acting as a responsible member of the Salt Lake community and avoid any potential contribution to the spread of COVID-19.
All athletes who did not participate in the 2020 virtual Salt Lake City Marathon have been deferred to the virtual 2021 Salt Lake City Marathon. We're going to make the most of the situation by putting on the best virtual event possible. All participants will have access to a fun and interactive race experience through the RaceJoy app. And, we're hooking you up with brand new premium apparel and finisher medals. You'll even offer a chance to earn additional swag while you train up as part of our brand new Salt Lake Fitness Challenge!
If the virtual race in 2021 does not work for you, you also have the option to defer to 2022 when a live event seems very likely. To defer to 2022, you will need to take action and process the deferral by Sunday, January 16 at 11:59pm:
Whether you participate in the 2021 virtual event or defer to 2022, ACTION IS REQUIRED FOR EVERYONE. Both options require you to claim your registration. Follow these five easy steps:
