IMPORTANT UPDATE - Completion Window Change to 3:00pm Saturday June 13th

We've been made aware of a 3/6 hour bike event planned for Loyston Point on Sunday June 14th. It is scheduled to begin with registration at 8:30am and wrap up with awards at 4:30pm. This event will be utilizing the Loyston Loop and Mill Creek Loop trails which are also used for the trail run.

Given this overlapping event, we are changing the end of the completion window for the Loyston Point Scramble to 3:00pm Saturday June 13th.

Please complete your run by that time and submit your results to me by noon Monday June 15th. Thank you for your flexibility!

EVENT NOTES - PLEASE REVIEW BEFORE HEADING TO LOYSTON POINT

It's time to hit the trails! The Loyston Point Scramble (DiY/COVID19 Edition) courses are marked and the window opens at 9:00am June 6 and will close at sunset Sunday June 14th 3:00pm Saturday June 13th. Here are a few final notes:

There will be no on-course support so plan accordingly. HYDRATION will be very important given the forecast temperatures and humidity levels.

The restroom facilities on site are closed due to COVID-19

It is recommended that you print and take the turn-by-turn course directions and/or map with you in the event course markings are tampered with. KTC Trails Committee members will be checking the markings throughout the week. There will be a "flyer" box at the trailhead with some turn-by-turn sheets in the event you forget yours. That box will also have some course marking materials for the Trails Committee members to utilize during the week so please leave those materials in place.

The course is lightly marked with flags and signs. Flags will be on the right side of the trail as you move forward. The first and last portion of the courses will have flags on both sides.

There may be a few spots where you will have to jump over downed trees but all are manageable (TVA personnel were doing some clearing today). There are a couple of spots where the trail is slightly washed out but passable.

Those susceptible to poison ivy are cautioned. There are a few spots long the course that are a bit overgrown and could have poison ivy amongst the ground cover (but on the bright-side we did not see any snakes today!).

As with all KTC Treadin' Trodden Trails races, these courses are not closed during our event. Given the "do it yourself" nature of this event and the window to complete, it is likely many of you will be sharing the trails with mountain bikers. Please exercise appropriate trail etiquette, caution and observe distancing guidelines as much as possible.

Given some course changes from previous years I expect GPS distances to be short of the 10k/13.1/mile distances.

Based on the honor system, once you complete the kids mile, 10k or half course, send me your self-timed time, and the date of completion at: pscottcrowley@gmail.com. Results will be posted throughout the week and you may run it as many times as you would like. We will take your fastest time for the results.

Results will be updated on the Treadin' Trodden Trails Facebook page throughout the week.

If you do not have a series t-shirt for the 2020 series already please include that info and what size shirt you'd like. We'll set up a location for pickup post-event. T-shirt pickup will be from 11:00am-6:00pm Tuesday June 16th at Runners Market (Western Plaza - 4443 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919)

If you take photos of you or your small group please pass those on to remember the first KTC TTT trail run in the COVID-19 era!

If you think there are course marking issues (signs moved/flags missing) please report those to me as soon as possible.

Registration will stay open throughout the week in case any of your friends, co-workers, family, etc. want to join in on the fun! Only registered participants will be included in the results.

IMPORTANT UPDATE May 15, 2020

The Loyston Point Scramble is on! Still a Kids Mile, 10k, and Half Marathon, but no need to wake up early for a 9:00 start. Instead, run the course anytime between 9am June 6 and sunset Sunday, June 14. Send us your time (yup, honor system) and we'll compute results. No aid stations or food on hand, but shirts will be available for pickup (more details to come on that).

Given changing conditions and timing of if/when restrictions may further loosen, this is our first foray into getting back on the trails. We're hopeful we can get back to more "normal" conditions the further into the year we get.

As to Loyston, here are a few notes on changes:

This race will not count in the series points standings
Based on the honor system:
The course will be marked as of 9:00am Saturday June 6th
There will be no on-course support
Participants have from 9:00am June 6th until sunset June 14th to run the course as many times as they wish
Once completed, participants should email the date of their run, which course (10k/half/kid’s mile), self-timed time, and if he/she does not already have a 2020 series shirt, the shirt size requested to Pete Crowley at pscottcrowley@gmail.com
Race results will updated as new information is submitted
Runners may register and run at any time before or during the completion window

SAFETY: Aid and water stations will be provided, but in an effort to be greener, we require all runners to carry their own water. This means no cups at the aid stations. If you don't own a handheld, consider purchasing one. We also strongly recommend that anyone sensitive to insect stings or bites carry their own medication. Finally, we urge that everyone do some pre-race training offroad, as there is no substitute for experience. We want you to have a good time.

INFO FOR RUNNING OR VOLUNTEERING: Volunteer signup is at https://runsignup.com/Race/Volunteer/TN/Andersonville/LoystonPointScramble. For more info, contact Race Director Pete Crowley at pscottcrowley@gmail.com or call Michael deLisle at 865.548.4718.  We value volunteerism highly. Runners can take their participation in the KTC TTT series to the next level by volunteering! Not only does the success of each trail race depend on our great community of volunteers, but volunteerism is required for placement in the esteemed Grand Prix Rankings. In order to qualify for a Grand Prix award, runners must also volunteer for a minimum of 3 events. Each trail race has opportunities for both folks running in the event and those preferring to provide support during the race. Volunteer positions can be found and selected on the respective race page on Runsignup.com. No experience is necessary and one might argue that volunteering is more fun than running. Come out, support the community and secure your place in the Grand Prix hierarchy!

KTC Safety Policy: KTC’s mission is to encourage lifelong physical well-being through running and walking. That is accomplished through a variety of events and programming.

The Knoxville Track Club puts the safety of its participants, spectators, staff and volunteers first. Dangerous weather conditions pose a unique challenge to an event of any size, distance or location.

Therefore, KTC has adopted the following Inclement Weather Policy:

Weather forecasts will be monitored prior to the event, with special attention placed on the possibility of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds, extreme temperatures and humidity. If necessary, athletes will be made aware of these conditions on Knoxville Track Club’s website (www.ktc.org), as well as through other available means of communication such as e-mail, Twitter, Facebook and public address announcements.

The Executive Director and Race Director in consultation, when available, with law enforcement, fire/EMS, other medical officers and other officials, will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action will be taken to modify the race. Possible changes include: Altering the start time, altering the course, or in extreme situations cancellation of the event. Visible lightning occurring within 30 minutes of the scheduled start will cause the race to be postponed for a minimum of 30 minutes. Additional sightings will continue to delay the race in 30-minute increments up to a maximum of 3 delays.
Race personnel reserve the right to delay, cancel, or suspend the race or modify the course due to inclement weather. As stated on registration and race pages, there are no refunds or transfers. Participants must abandon the race if ordered to do so by the race personnel, medical staff, fire/paramedics or police personnel.
