Description
The Young Marines program will be hosting its annual DDR Dash 5K across the Nation. These races will start at 0900 everywhere so you will not only be running or walking with the folks in your area, but thousands of people across the country.
This year, the Buffalo Wallow Unit is hosting a local DDR Dash 5K as part of the cause. You can join us in being a part of this massive nationwide event and earn some cool swag while doing it. Is 5K a bit too far? Then opt for the 2K walk option instead.
DDR stands for Drug Demand Reduction. This is a big part of the Young Marines program who continuously fight drugs in our local communities, especially with regard to other youth. In addition, these Dashes are a way to commemorate Enrique “Kiki” Camarena who was a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent who lost his life in the effort to keep harmful drugs off the streets of America. In commemoration of Kiki’s sacrifice, and in acknowledgment of the thousands of agents and officers just like him who strive to make our world a safer place, the Young Marines run the Drug Demand Reduction (DDR Dash) 5K as part of our national Red Ribbon Week efforts.
Those that sign up by 27 August are guaranteed their t-shirt size and related swag for participating in the event. Those that register after that date may or may not receive these items and will receive shirt sizes based on first-come, first-serve (depending upon supply). The cost of the event is $21, for either the 5K run or the 2K walk.
Information about where the money goes: All proceeds benefit the Buffalo Wallow Unit of the Young Marines based in Canadian Texas. The Young Marines strengthens the lives of America’s youth by teaching the importance of self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The mission of the Young Marines is to positively impact America’s future by providing quality youth development programs for boys and girls that nurtures and develops its members into responsible citizens who enjoy and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
