OLD RIP 5K and KID'S FUN RUN/WALK

Entry Fees:

5K - $25 before 9/18/2019

Teams of 5 or more - $20 (must be turned in together by 9/18/2019)

Kids’ Run - $10

ONLY early registrations by 9/18/2019 will receive a t-shirt.

The Old Rip 5K and Kids’ Fun Run/Walk is part of the Eastland Chamber of Commerce “Ripfest – 2019," a festival celebrating the city’s famous horned toad.

This year the Eastland Chamber of Commerce will be recognizing the 176th Year Anniversary of the Mier Expedition: Black Bean Drawing and honoring the 176 Texas heroes that were forced to participated in it. 

As punishment for an escape attempt following the battle of Mier, the Mexican Army put 159 white beans and 17 black beans in an earthen jar and forced their captives to partake in a fatal lottery. Eastland County's Namesake, Captain William Mosby Eastland, was among the prisoners of war and was the first to draw a deadly black bean. On March 25, 1843, Captain Eastland along with 16 of his men from the expedition were executed. 

In remembrance of their sacrifice for Texas's Independence, we will be holding a Black Bean Drawing at the Old Rip 5K finish line. Those that draw a black bean will be given a goodie bag and the first to draw a black bean will be dubbed Captain William Mosby Eastland for RipFest 2019 and receive a special prize.  
 

5K: Medals will be awarded to age group winners.

Kids’ Fun Run/Walk: All finishers will win ribbons.

Teams: Special awards will be given to the school and the business that have the largest registered team. Deadline for team registration is Friday, Sept. 18. All team forms must be received in the same envelope.

After the race, stay for Ripfest, including a parade, Bryan’s Car Show, live music, kids’ games, crafts, and food booths.
