Q: I'm about to finish the Race Across Tennessee. What do I need to do?
A: Enter your mileage as always. When you hit the total distance, or more, for finishing, wait for the following day's UPDATE, and you'll be added to the Finish List, and you'll be sent an acknowledgement email. Remember, the finish line is 634.84 miles or 1022 KM. Don't stop at 1000 km. Also, keep in mind that the link will be sent the DAY AFTER you finish, sometime that evening. If you don't see it, please check your spam and trash folders, as it sometimes goes there.
Q: Do I use a different URL, bib#, or pin# for Back Across Tennessee?
A: No. Enter the same way you've been doing it.
Q: I don't see myself on the map, am I doing something wrong?
A: No. You won't be shown on the map you watched for Race Across Tennessee. There is a NEW map for Back Across Tennessee. Choose the BATS on the Road link from vacationwithoutacar.com. Also on vacationwithoutacar.com you can see lots of other cool info, such as the All-In-One report, the Archives, and the Finisher's Lists.
Q: Are there special awards for Back Across Tennessee? What about this 1000 mile award I'm hearing about?
A: Yes, we have special awards for Back Across Tennessee. Many of us might not quite make it all the way back, but we can make it to the 1000 mile mark. Finish 1000 miles and you'll receive a commemorative pin. Get all the way back across, and receive a cool map AND the Commemorative Pin. These awards are included in your registration fee for Back Across Tennessee.
Q: Do I have to run 5 miles each day, or can I break it up and run more on the weekends?
A: You can run or walk as much or as little as you want on a given day. In order to earn your finisher's medal, you'll have to finish 1021k before September 1, 2020. Yes, it's 21k over the 1000k.
Q: Do I have to run the whole way?
A: No. You can run or walk.
Q: Do I need a GPS watch/tracker, or Strava? Will I need to show my watch or device for proof of running?
A: You can use one if you wish, but you don't need one, and you can't link to the log in site with it. You are on the Honor System. There are no additional awards given for running faster.
Q: Do treadmill miles count? What about Trail miles?
A: Yes for treadmills. Yes for Trail miles.
Q: I'm running in another race during the same period as TGVRAT. Can I count those miles during TGVRAT?
Q: If I register after the race starts on May 1, can I include my back mileage to May 1?
A: NO. If you register before or on May 1, your mileage begins on May 1. If you register after May 1, your mileage begins on the date you register.
Q: How will I report my miles?
A: Refer to the "Enter Miles/Kilometers Here" section for full details.
Q: What is a custom URL, and how do I get mine?
A: Everyone has a unique URL assigned for ease in logging miles. Just click on your url and you are taken to the log-in site for entering mileage. Your name and bib are already populated, and you just add your pin#, date of run, miles or km, and distance. Then submit.
Q: I don't have time to log mileage on a regular basis. Is there an option to not have to do this?
A: Yes! Since it's the Honor System, if you decide that you don't want to regularly enter your mileage, and you don't care about watching yourself vs others on the tracking map, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and mention that you'd like to be put in the SOLO Division. You can keep up with your own mileage, just like you were doing, and when you finish, send an email to us, and we'll send your medal to you.
Q: Why does the day-by-day distance on the map show only whole numbers?
A: Only whole numbers are shown on the map's day-by-day in order to save needed space. Enter distance up to two decimals and the system will retain it., and your total distance shown will equal your totals that you entered.
Q: What is the elevation ascent/descent and total mileage
A: 16,048' climb; 12,871' descent; Mileage: 634.84 miles / 1021.68 km
Q: Why is it further than the advertised 1000 km?
A: Like most races you've run, unless the course is a USATF Certified Course, the distance is very likely NOT the exact advertised distance. There are "100 milers" out there that range from 97 miles to 104 miles.
Q: Which miles/kilometers count?
A: From Laz: OK. Now for the important question; Sure, you are self reporting, and we are not requiring "proof", but what miles (or kilometers) should count?
This should only be the distances you cover when you actually go out to run (or walk... I will be walking all of mine)... and yes, treadmill miles will count as well... and no, elliptical machines do not count. I know some people go thru the day bristling with more electronic devices than a spy plane, counting up every step they take from getting out of bed to retiring for the night... along with a few steps for driving across railroad tracks, jiggling their leg while watching TV, or any other activity that causes one of their devices to register movement. Those are not really fair... What should be added to the daily tally are only the miles you cover while actually doing your daily walk or run, on purpose to cover some ground.
Please; no Perry Mason loophole searching... You know the intent of the rule, and that is the rule.
Q: Can we have a relay team?
A: The event was set up as an Individual event.
Q: Are the shirts unisex or gender specific?
