Run 1: 5k
The 5K run course utilizes the hard-packed multi-use path that encircles the lake at RiverLights This trail is wide and the surface allows for any type of lightweight racing flats with no difficulty whatsoever. The run course is pancake flat. The course crosses one of the interior roads in the RiverLights development. This road will be closed to traffic, but participants need to be aware that the trail drops off a typical curb onto the paved road and then back up a curb onto the trail. Nothing of consequence here - just something to be aware of and looking for. We'll have this area marked with signs. Participants will cross this road at the 1.4 mile mark and then again at the 2.8 mile mark.
The entire 12 mile bike course is closed to vehicular traffic. The bike course incorporates 2 miles of River Rd. featuring a grass median running down the middle, wide lanes, and ultra-smooth asphalt.
Participants will do three laps of this 2-mile stretch – 2 miles down to the big sweeping turnaround – 2 miles back (3 laps – 12 miles). This will be a super fast bike course and actually has some elevation changes – typically unheard of in Wilmington.
The first 2K of the 5K course.
