Sometime before afternoon on March 14, 2021 you have the option to run, walk, skip, cartwheel, or saunter 3.14 miles, which is a little more than a 5K to help support our efforts in promoting and engaging science events in and around Chicago.
It's a virtual race and we use the honor system so we won't know if you spent 3.14 hours on your couch. You can also go 3.14 kilometers, furlongs, acres, leagues, or city blocks if you choose.
As an added bonus...you can map your route with an app, if you're into that, and submit it to us. The most creative route will win a prize for it!
The “official” race day is March 14, 2021, but because this is a virtual race, you can run whenever and wherever you want. You’ll have until race day (3/14/21) to register and raise money. Once you have hit your fundraising minimum, we will register you for the race and order your shirt.
If you want your shirt by Pie Day, you will need to have your funds raised by February 24, 2021!
When you sign up for a Charity Bib and commit to be a community fundraiser you have the potential to support the Illinois Science Council in an even bigger way! By joining with a Charity Bib, this means you're going to lead your own personal fundraiser, engage your friends and family in your effort to raise funds and awareness about this amazing organization!
Once you raise at least $314, your entry to the Pi Day Run Virtual Race is FREE!
Don't wait. Sign up and start fundraising now! (Don't worry, we'll help you through the process.)
This is a collaboration between the Illinois Science Council and Wander Project.
Illinois Science Council ("ISC") is an independent 501c3 organization that engages, educates, and entertains the adult public about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in our everyday lives. We showcase scientists and research in all fields from Astronomy to Zoology and everything in between with live, hands-on events, and (during a pandemic) through engaging virtual programs in order to raise understanding and appreciation of STEM subjects. More info at https://IllinoisScience.org.
Carl Sagan observed, "We live in a society that is exquisitely dependent upon science and technology in which hardly anyone understands anything about science and technology." ISC is certainly working to change that by bringing to life another of his views: The brain is like a muscle. When it is in use we feel very good. Understanding is joyous."
