Join us for the 4th annual Richmond Road Runners Club's Poop Loop 4ish Miler! RRRC is partnering with the James River Park System to offer this Saturday night run. This run/walk will be held in-person roads and trails. There is also a virtual option for 2022!
You have three options:
The trails are beginner-friendly. Children age 6 and older and youth are welcome to run this event.
Why "The Poop Loop"? Technically, the mountain bike trail is Ancarrow's East, but its location next to the City of Richmond's sewage treatment plant affectionately earned it the name "The Poop Loop" early on and it stuck.
Runners must be 6 years old or older to participate in this 4 mile trail or road/path race.

This 4.0ish mile course will begin at the entrance to Ancarrow's Landing and run on the road for a half mile at which point runners will cross over the long forgotten railroad tracks to meld with the Slave Trail Annex. Just before the underpass, runners will take a hard right onto the Slave Trail and head back east. At the large parking lot, you'll take a diagonal path to begin the trek to the Poop Loop. Taking a left turn onto a section of the Slave Trail Annex, runners will turn right and reach a large grove of trees. At the entrance to the Poop Loop, runners will begin the loop clockwise. Once you exit, you will head back the way you came with the exception of heading straight to run along the river. The finish line will be in the smaller (original) lot. In case of rain or if the trail is too wet, runners will use the road course. This is a trail race. You must be alert for gravel, roots, rocks, tree limbs, mud, ups, downs, turns and any other challenges of trail running.
Note: Routes are subject to change.
Runners will begin in the parking lot of Ancarrow's Landing and take a right onto Brander Street. Just after the underpass, you will head up the hill to revel in the lit city skyline. (Seriously, it's a sight worth taking in!) Heading west along the flood wall, runners will take a hard right onto 14th and another hard right onto the Flood Wall Trail. Keep running while taking in the view of the downtown skyline and the sounds of the river. Runners are heading up to the top of the Manchester Climbing Wall where you'll be greeted with a turnaround sign. Take a selfie! Then head back the way you came. It's a gorgeous view of the city, one many of us don't make the time to see.
Note: This route is subject to change.
Course rules are subject to change at the discretion of the race directors.
HEADLAMPS OR SOME SORT OF LIGHT SOURCE IS MANDATORY. You will be running on trail or road in the dark. You will need to see where you are going. Do not depend on someone else to light your way. There will be a mandatory check-in the day of the race meaning we will check for your light source.
WATER and REFRESHMENTS: Depending on the weather, there will be a water stop along the course. It will be without cups. Please bring your own cup or bottle to fill. Thank you for helping us protect the parks and reduce trash! There will be a trail mix buffet waiting for you at the finish line.
In consideration of the safety of all participants, the following are not allowed on the course during the race: headphones, baby joggers, baby strollers, animals on or off leash, skateboards, inline or roller skates, or bicycles. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, RRRC encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of the Poop Loop 4ish Miler.
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU NEED TO BE ALERT FOR TRAFFIC. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SAFETY. BE ALERT, WATCH FOR TRAFFIC & PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR FELLOW RUNNERS, COURSE MARSHALS, AND POLICE.
The race will be timed by the Richmond Road Runners Club. Results will be posted on online on the RRRC website and on this race page (see Results tab).
