4 Mile Virtual Run

Description

Join us for the inaugural Richmond Road Runners Club's Sunrise 4 Miles! This run/walk will be held in-person at Dogwood Dell and will head down to the Texas Beach Trail. There is also a virtual option available.

If you are new to trail running and/or hiking, this is the perfect event to get your started. The Texas Beach trail, though curvy, is flat and relatively easy to navigate. The trail sits next to and slightly above the James River so the route is subject to change depending on the level of the river on race day. We want to make sure all participants stay safe and dry!

This is a walker-friendly event. If your child is 6 years old or older and can complete the distance, they are welcome to join you. Due to the out-and-back nature of this course, we ask that you leave the dogs and strollers at home.

Trail course

Parking is available in Dogwood Dell. The race start will be on Pump House Drive. The race finish will be in the Pump House Drive dirt parking lot. It is an out and back, you will turn around under the Nickel Bridge.

There won't be much time to get spread out before hitting the trail; however, there will be many points along the route where passing is possible. Please use caution when passing a runner and communicate your intentions as you pass. If you must wear earbuds or headphones, wear only one. This is a hard and fast rule, you need to be able to hear faster runners behind you as well as the occasional mountain biker.

The map of the course is below. Texas Beach is a great trail that is flat with plenty of roots to keep you focused.

Course rules

Course rules are subject to change at the discretion of the race director.

WATER and REFRESHMENTS: There will be water and refreshments at the start and finish lines only. This due to the nature of the course and being unable to get water coolers onto the course safely. We promise we aren't purposely testing your mettle!

In consideration of the safety of all participants, the following are not allowed on the course during the race: headphones, baby joggers, baby strollers, animals on or off leash, skateboards, inline or roller skates, or bicycles. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, RRRC encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of all trail races.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU NEED TO BE ALERT FOR TRAFFIC. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SAFETY. BE ALERT, WATCH FOR TRAFFIC & PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR FELLOW RUNNERS, COURSE MARSHALS, AND POLICE.
