                     2020 Halifax County Happy Feet 5K!

                Our County! Our 5K! Healthy. Happy. Together!!!!

  • On your Mark, Set, Start the New Year Off with a healthy state of mind.
  • This is the 7th annual Happy Feet to promote health and fitness in Halifax County!
  • Sign up online for yourself, with family, friends, as a church group, school team/club, social club or company team. Google 2020 Halifax County Happy Feet 5K.
  • Do it because you can and to influence others.
Route: Start at Middle School Tuck Dillard Stadium, loop around the track, proceed to the High School, around the student parking lot, (across from Walmart), loop around the teacher’s parking lot, proceed back to Middle School, looping around the Tish Waller Stadium track, proceeding toward bus maintenance shop, looping around the Middle School, ending back at the Dillard Stadium to the Finish Line celebration where you will receive your finisher medal/healthy snacks.
The Finish Line celebration will excite, energize and keep you upbeat with music and entertainment. Registered participants are eligible to win cash prizes. Please call 202-770-7874 if you are a business and want to donate finish line items (dinner for two, work-out gear, exercise equipment, gym memberships, hotel stays, shopping spree, free meals, coupons, etc.) for runners/walkers. Let your customers know how much you care!
Wear your most creative “happiest feet” creations (i.e., colorful knee socks, painted legs, attached bells, ribbons, balloons, or lights to bling up your sneakers).
County officials will be on hand to ensure a healthy and happy family fun event. The media will be on hand to cover this fun family event that is planned with county officials to ensure it is safely organized.
The Halifax County Happy Feet 5K Run/Walk is an annual fitness event to promote healthy lifestyles in Halifax County. Proceeds go toward student programs. Happy Feet was established to continue the work of Virginia Maude Dixon Hightower who advocated goodwill for all Halifax County residents! Happy Feet is organized by the Happy Feet Run for Health and Fitness, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.

Your Happy Feet 5K Training Plan

Get Moving so you will be Happy Feet Ready

Newcomers to any running program should get a doctor’s clearance and be free of injury and illness. Also, get a good pair of running shoes that fit comfortably— and comfortable running apparel.
January - Easy run/walk weeks 1,2,3. Run 1 mile in week 4                                                              February - Run/walk 1.5 miles. Run 2 miles in week 4.                                                                      March - Run/walk 2 miles in week 1, 2. 3. Run 2.5 miles in week 4.                                           April - Run/walk 2.5 miles in week 1. Run 3 miles in week 2.                                                            Rest until race day!!! YOU are Happy Feet ready!!!!  

During your training, do the following:

  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated during your workouts.
  • Add plenty fruits, vegetables, protein and fiber to your diet.
  • Curb fried foods, processed foods, sugar snacks and alcohol.
