Description
Experience the breathtaking beauty of fall in the Shenandoah Valley by participating in the region's top half marathon or our new 5K! Whether you choose 13.1 or 3.1 miles, these races offer a challenge for seasoned runners or novice runners. The starting line is situated in the historic Kernstown Battlefield, and the course takes runners through scenic Middle Road and picturesque country roads throughout Frederick County. Don't miss out on this opportunity to enjoy the stunning fall foliage while achieving your fitness goals!
*NEW* for 2023 is the Battlefield 5K! This out-and-back course will begin in Kernstown Battlefield, heads out to Middle Road and returns to the start. What a fun way to high five some running buddies! You choose how you would like to participate - just as an individual or join a team at no additional charge!
*NOTE* - the 5K will take place during the half marathon.
IMPORTANT DATES
August 13: Battlefield Half Marathon 12 Week Training Program Begins! Register HERE
September 30: Deadline to be guaranteed a t-shirt. After this date, race shirts are available while supplies last.
November 3: Battlefield Race Expo & Packet Pickup; 4:30-6:30 pm at PRO Motion
November 4: Race day! Packet Pickup 6:45-7:30 am;
Half Marathon begins at 8 am; 5K will begin once half marathoners reach Middle Road - ~8:30 am
Attention! The Shenandoah University Track and Field/Cross Country team will be present at the start/finish line hosting a shoe collection fundraiser. Gently used/new shoes of all genders, sizes, and types (sneakers, flip flops, cleats, etc.) will be collected. The goal is to collect a total of 100 bags over the next 60 days!

Battlefield Half Marathon Awards
Overall Half Marathon Winners *No duplication of awards (other than Local Runner Awards)
1st Place: $500 male and female
2nd Place: $400 male and female
3rd Place: $300 male and female
Masters (40+): $200 male and female
Half Marathon Local Runner Awards
1st Place Frederick County/Winchester: $250 male and female
*Local Runner Awards will not be recognized at the awards ceremony after the races. Local Runner Awards will be verified after the race & awards will be mailed.
Half Marathon Age Group Awards
The top two male and female half marathon finishers in the following age brackets: 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69, 70+
*The awards ceremony will begin 2.5 hours after the start of the race.
Battlefield 5K Awards
1st Place Overall: $75 male and female
2nd Place Overall: $50 male and female
3rd Place Overall: $25 male and female
Masters (40+): $25 male and female
**No duplication of awards
Monetary awards are given in the form of VISA gift cards.
No age group awards will be awarded for the 5K.
Battlefield 5K Team Awards
·First Place Community Male, Female and Coed teams will be awarded a $200 Visa gift card
·First Place Corporate Coed team will earn bragging rights, a commemorative plaque and one non-peak VIP Lodge rental at Frederick County Parks & Recreation Walking in a Winter Wonderland!

Mission: To break the cycle of homelessness one life at a time.
WATTS empowers individuals to re-enter the workforce and connect individuals to the resources
needed to be as self-sufficient as possible while providing a safe, temporary shelter during extreme weather.
