Charlotte Covered Bridge 5K/10K & Half Marathon by Saucony

Sat September 11, 2021 Shelburne, VT 05482 US Directions RaceJoy Ready

5K Run/Walk

8:05AM EDT - 11:05AM EDT

10K Run

8:05AM EDT - 12:05PM EDT

Half Marathon

8:00AM EDT - 1:00PM EDT

This is definitely one of our racers' favorite races. There are no huge hills and the scenery is beautiful. Beginning and ending at picturesque Shelburne Beach (a last minute change), you will run along a dirt/gravel and paved roads featuring scenic views of Vermont countryside and rural farmland. Run past Charlotte Beach situated on beautiful Lake Champlain just before entering the Holmes Creek Covered Bridge for the first time. The course continues on quiet, rolling hills before arriving at the turnaround. The half marathon runs through the covered bridge twice. The 5K and 10K turn around before reaching the bridge.

This race has a 450 person limit.

Time Limits

This race will be limited to 3-1/2 hours regardless of distance. If you are out on the course after the time limit has passed, you will be running at your own risk because police officers and other staff/volunteers may not be available on the course; however, we will have a follow vehicle behind the final runner. In addition, someone from the timing team will be waiting, cheering you in, and recording your time.

Pre-Race Check In

Race bibs and t-shirts will be available at Fleet Feet Sports, 77 Pearl Street, Essex Junction, Vermont on Friday, September 10 from noon to 6 pm for those who would like to pick up their packet early. You are welcome to pick up a friend's race packet as long as they've already signed the waiver. Racers will receive a 15% in-store discount when picking up their race packets. Those who pick up their packets on Friday do not need to check in on race day, but they should arrive no later than 7:40 am to be sure to hear pre-race announcements. Note: If you are entering the address into your mapping app, be sure to use Essex Junction, VT; NOT Essex, VT.

Race day check in will open at 7:00, Saturday, September 11 in the field at Shelburne Beach for those who have not already picked up their packets.

Where to Park

Parking will be available on both sides of Bostwick Road, and possibly in some drier fields nearby. Please follow race staff and police directions. Once parked, please walk down to Shelburne Beach. We are asking all racers to stay out of the parking lot at the beach, and instead go onto the grass to avoid the timing mats. The start and finish will be at the same place.

Course Maps

Due to the abundance of rain that we received Wednesday, September 8, and the rain we expect to receive Friday, September 10, the field at Shelburne Orchard is not available for parking or for the race start/finish. Because of that, we are reverting to our previous course that starts and ends at Shelburne Beach. Find the course map here for all three divisions.

Water & Relief Stations

There will be water stations at 3 locations along the course. They will be located at:

  • Mile 1.55 - the 5K turnaround
  • Mile 3.1 - the 10K turnaround
  • Mile 6.55 - the half marathon turnaround

Plain water and Nuun will be available in cups at the water stations. Because of COVID, volunteers will be filling cups and placing them on a table. They will not be handing out the water. For your protection, and that of our volunteers, we recommend that you travel with your own water; however, water will be available to any who want it.

In addition to the portable toilets located at the start/finish, there will be a portable toilet at Charlotte Beach and at the half marathon turnaround.
