Safety Kayak High Priority

Details

$100-$150 Stipend for this position plus food/drink and a t-shirt. More if you bring your own boat and gear, less if you use ours - You may bring your own kayak but if you don't have one we can also provide one. If you bring your own you must additionally provide your own PFD and paddle.

For those that have their own kayak - If you live on the island and have your own kayak you are good to go. If you are off island with your own kayak we will instruct you on a time and place to meet up with our boats coming over. You will load your kayak on their boat and come over with them and be dropped in your assigned location.

For those that need to use one of our kayaks - If you live on island we will have our boats that are bringing the kayaks over meet with you to get your kayak. If you live off island you will be given a time and location to meet our boat captains and come over to the island with the kayak on board we will provide for you.

Responsible for monitoring the waters and swims in their assigned area(s). Swimmers can hold the front of your kayak for rest but may not be helped forward on the course. Kayaks work with the rescue boats and shoreline medical in an emergency situation.

Motorized Rescue Boat High Priority

Details

$300 Stipend for this position plus food/drink and a t-shirt - Must provide your own boat.

Responsible for monitoring the waters and swims in their assigned area(s). Kayaks are there to keep the swim line from the entry to exit points and help swimmers along the way as needed. Rescue boats stay just a bit further out and are responsible for making sure no one swims way off course as well as being responsive in medical situations working with the kayaks and shoreline medical.

Medical Team Member High Priority

Details

$150-$300 Stipend for this position, a ferry ticket if necessary, plus food/drink and a t-shirt. Must be certified (first responder, EMT, Medic, Nurse, Doctor, etc). Exact stipend amount depends on the length of the shift. We provide all medical supplies in a backpack to be checked out and back in and the start and end of the shift. Medical Team Members are on a bike. Having your own bike is preferred but we will rent a bike for you and have it available Sunday morning if you need it.

Medical Team Members will be assigned a coverage area and shown on a map dependent on the shift time signed up for. Responsibilities including riding coverage area over and over identifying and helping anyone in distress. If necessary one must communicate with the Medical Director, other medical, EMS, etc. Some shifts work only on the trails within the island and some work with both trails and swims.

Arch Rock Directional Flagger High Priority

$50 Stipend - Will also receive a t-shirt plus food/drink and a ferry ticket if necessary.

This volunteer will stand at the spot at Arch Rock where all paths converge and make sure athletes go down the stairs to their swim. When they come back up from that swim this volunteer will point them in the direction of the stairs to get onto Tranquil Bluff Trail.

Course Flagger - Bottom of Stairs at Arch Rock High Priority

Directing athletes coming down the stairs on where to enter water at the bottom of the stairs and making sure athletes returning from that swim exit go back up the stairs.

Long Course / Short Course Split Flagger High Priority

This volunteer stands at the Long Course Short Course split point and directs athletes whichever way they need to go.

Water Stop & Swim Exit Checkpoints High Priority

$50 Stipend - Will also receive a t-shirt plus food/drink and a ferry ticket if necessary.

Additionally a bike is highly recommended and if necessary we can rent one for you although we would much prefer you bring your own if possible. Water stops 1, 2, and 6 can be accessed easy enough by walking or jogging if enough time is accounted for from the beginning of the race but we still recommend a bike as it's much easier to get around. Everything outside stops 1, 2, and 6 you will need a bike for sure.

Responsible for helping athletes as needed at the water stops but the coolers and gels should be out and ready for them to get on their own. Main responsibility is the checkpoint. We will provide each athlete with a phone to use (and check back in later). This phone will have a timing app and connect automatically via bluetooth with any chip that comes near it. As long as the phone is on and app is running, it does all the work. We just need someone to have the phone and watch the water stop and let it do it's thing. Very little work but someone has to be at the stop.

When the last swimmer has cleared the checkpoint the volunteer(s) pickup any mess, empty coolers, stack and tidy things up and then return the phone to our finish line area which is on the way back to the main downtown area.

Finish Line & Post Race Medium Priority

Details

$50 Stipend - Will also receive a t-shirt plus food/drink and a ferry ticket if necessary.

Responsibilities include helping our timer, announcer, and food server in any way they need. We also hand out finisher's shirts so you may find yourself doing this.

Location

Marquette Park Area. Exact area TBD and will be updated mid July.

Finisher Spotting Low Priority

August 25, 2024

Details

$75 Stipend - Will also receive a t-shirt plus food/drink and a ferry ticket if necessary.

This person will be in direct contact with the finish line announcer letting him know who is coming towards the finish (numbers they're wearing).

Top of the staircase leading down from the fort to Marquette Park.
