Help us kick off race morning at Rockwood Hall by welcoming runners and getting them checked in before they head to the trails. Check-in volunteers will assist with verifying registrations in RunSignUp, handing out bibs and swag, and answering basic race-morning questions. You’ll be one of the first friendly faces runners see, helping set a calm, organized tone as the day gets rolling.

No prior experience is required. We’ll provide a quick walkthrough on race morning, and there will always be a lead volunteer or race staff nearby for support. Expect a fast-moving, social shift with lots of runner energy and gratitude flowing your way.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys interacting with people, staying organized, and being at the heart of the action as the races come to life.

Marathon - First Sweepers

First Marathon Sweepers play a critical safety and support role on race day. Volunteers should arrive at the Rockwood Hall start/finish area by 7:00 AM to receive instructions, radios, a small first aid kit, and the marathon start list with in and out sheets. We recommend doing a car-drop in advance to make returning to your vehicles at the end of the day easier. Sweepers will follow the final marathon runner from the start through Aid Station #6 at approximately mile 17, helping ensure all runners are accounted for and supported along the course. This role involves running about 17 miles at a comfortable pace while staying alert, communicating by radio, and assisting as needed.

Half Marathon Sweepers

Half Marathon Sweepers play a key safety and support role on race day. Volunteers should arrive at the Rockwood Hall start/finish area by 8am to receive instructions, radios, a small first aid kit, and the half marathon start list with in and out sheets. Sweepers will follow the final half marathon runner for the full course, starting and finishing at Rockwood Hall, helping ensure all runners are accounted for and supported along the way. This role involves covering the full half marathon distance at a comfortable pace while staying alert, communicating by radio, and assisting as needed. Since the course starts and finishes at the same location, no car-drop or shuttling is necessary. You can expect to be out on the course until at least 2pm.

Marathon - Second Sweepers

Second Marathon Sweepers play a critical safety and support role during the later stages of the race. Volunteers should plan to arrive at Aid Station #6 at mile 17 by 12:00 PM, beginning once the first group of sweepers arrives and the aid station has reconciled their in and out sheets. From there, sweepers will follow the final marathon runners from mile 17 to the finish at Rockwood Hall, covering approximately 9.2 miles while ensuring all runners are accounted for and supported. We recommend doing a car-drop in advance to make shuttling to and from Aid Station #6 and returning to your vehicle easier. Sweepers can expect to be out on the course until at least 5:00 PM.

Aid Station #1/8 - Old Croton Aqueduct & Rte 117

Aid Station #1/8 volunteers help set the tone for the day by supporting runners early on the course. The first shift of volunteers should arrange their own transportation to Aid Station #1, located on the Old Croton Aqueduct where it crosses Route 117, and be in place by 6:30 AM. Volunteers will assist with setting up the station, offering water and fuel, and providing encouragement as runners pass through. This role is perfect for volunteers who enjoy being outdoors, working as part of a team, and giving runners a strong start to their race day.

The second shift of volunteers play an important role supporting runners near the later stages of the course. Later shifts should plan to park on Rockwood Road near the west side of the bridge over Route 9 and walk to the aid station at the underpass beneath Route 117, or park at the pedestrian crossing on Sleepy Hollow Road and walk over. The last shift of volunteers should remain at the station until the second set of sweepers comes through, helping ensure all runners are accounted for and supported. This station provides water, fuel, and encouragement, making it a critical point for runner safety and morale.

Aid Station #2/#7 Old Sleepy Hollow Road

Volunteers at Aid Station #2/7 play a crucial role at one of the busiest points on the course, supporting runners from both the marathon and half marathon as they pass through. Volunteers should be in place by 7:30 AM at the underpass below Sleepy Hollow Road, with parking available along Sleepy Hollow Road. The station will remain open until the second set of marathon sweepers comes through, and volunteers can expect to finish around 2:00 PM. An ambulance will be staged nearby, and a portable toilet will be available. This high-traffic station involves two-way runner traffic, so volunteers should be alert, organized, and ready to provide steady support, hydration, and encouragement to all participants.

Aid Station #3/#6 Bedford Road Route 448

Volunteers at Aid Station #3/6 play a key role in supporting runners and keeping the course safe. Volunteers should be in place by 8:30 AM at the underpass beneath Route 448, with parking available on the road. The station will provide water, fuel, and encouragement to runners as they pass through, helping them stay energized and motivated. An ambulance will be stationed nearby, and a portable toilet will be available. Volunteers can expect to be finished around 3:00 PM. This role is ideal for those who enjoy being outdoors, working as part of a team, and providing steady support to runners at a critical mid-course location.

Aid Station #4/#5 Ferguson Lake Trail and Reservoir loop

Volunteers for AS#4/5 will be able to drive to their location at the junction of Ferguson Lake Trail and Reservoir loop. They may enter onto the carriage roads from a dummy locked gate across from the Stone Barns Center on Pasture Lane. They should arrive at their location by 8:30 a.m. and stay there until the first set of sweeps comes through for the second time.

Finishline Crew

Details

Finish Line Crew volunteers help make the end of race day memorable and smooth for all participants. You’ll assist the timing company, hand out finisher medals, distribute food, and help runners retrieve the warm clothes they left at the start. Volunteers will also support the award ceremony, helping present overall and age-group prizes and medals. This role is all about energy, encouragement, and celebration, cheering on runners as they finish, congratulating them, and helping create a fun, supportive atmosphere for everyone crossing the line.
