Archived Healthy Kids Running Series Spring 2023 - North Shore, WI

Sun April 16 - Sun May 21 Fox Point, WI 53217 US Directions

Timer & Recorder (2 people)

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

- one person is the Volunteer Timer. They are responsible for
starting the stop watch when either the start line volunteer says “On your mark, go!” or when
they hear the horn blow at the beginning of the race. They will read times aloud to the
Volunteer Recorder as each racer crosses the finish line. The Volunteer Recorder will write
down times on the time recording sheet or a notebook/piece of paper as the Volunteer Timer
shouts it out. They only need to write the time that the timer shouts out to them.
The Volunteer Recorder does not need to record the race bib number, name, just write down
the division and time being read aloud to them. All races are timed except the 50 Yard Dash &
75 Yard Dash. Ensure to have extra volunteers in the finish line chute area to keep the runners in
a single file line after they cross the finish line. Later when the Series is over, the recorded times
on the time recording sheet will then be matched up with the bib tear-offs so each runner has
an associated time for their entered race.

• The results keepers should help in the finish line chute for the 50 and 75 yard
dash since these races are not timed.

Registration Table (2)

At least 2 more volunteers needed.

Details

Registration Table (2+ people) - responsibilities include accepting registration and payment,
keeping order, answering questions, assisting in filling out registration forms, handing out
race bibs and t-shirts to new registrants and informing parents that their child’s race bib
needs to be completely filled out.

Group Leaders (5 people)

At least 5 more volunteers needed.

Details

These volunteers are responsible for the boys and girls in each of
the five (5) age groups after the welcoming and opening announcement. Once the opening
announcements are over the Community Coordinator will deploy the participants into groups
based on grade level and the Volunteer Group Leader will lead them in stretching. While
stretching and warming up, the Volunteer Group Leader should discuss the value of eating
properly and exercising, if they are comfortable. This is all positive reinforcement and
encouragement. This will be the first race for many of the participants!

Starter (1 person)

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

- this person is at the start of each race and blows the air horn acknowledging
the start of that race. The Starter must coordinate the starting of the race with the Time Keeper
and Results Keeper so everyone is in the right place and accurate time is kept. In addition, the
starter should make sure all kids have their shoes tied and their names (last name, first initial)
on the tear-off portion of the race bib. They should also remind the kids of our Code of
Conduct, confirm they know where the course goes and where to turn before blowing the
starting horn.

• Tip: Keep a sharpie in your pocket in case a child’s race bibs are not properly
filled out.

Course Marshalls (5)

At least 5 more volunteers needed.

Details

Course marshalls will stand at specific locations to make sure children know where to run during the race.
